Sounds like a good deal to me. I had to pay 1200+ insurance for my first car back in 1997 and it was a rather faded citroen Visa GTI (Stop laughing back there). Car lasted less then a year before falling apart. It was fun though.

edited to add the word insurance. The car wasn't worth half that =)

CU80 for using a mobile? That must be up there with TS10 in terms of something insurers consider a big risk.
I thought you meant the postcode for a moment there! At the height of the 90s when car theft was a big problem Ts10 postcodes were a bit bad for insurance biggrin
I received a TS10 back in the mid 1990s. I was with Eagle Star, and it made no difference to my insurance. Maybe a 1.4LX Escort wouldn't bring up the bills of a Cossie wink

Also, I wouldn't bet £1k of my own money on a 21 year old with 6 points not having any accidents totalling more than £1k after all costs in a year.

It's not exactly a Ferrari but my MX-5 wasn't the most reassuring drive in the snow we had a few years back, but I'm sure you're a more sensible 20yo than I was and didn't try to just run T1Rs all year round that were practically slicks.

I dunno about the rest of you but doesn't seem worth a gamble to me, so you should probably be pleased the ins co will take those odds!
I'm guessing you don't have billions behind you to make that bet, if you did and you still wouldn't you'd be a fool. The insurers are not making that, they are making a far riskier one where they can lose far more than £1k, and are still prepared to do it.

I take it you didn't actually read my post then?

I wouldn't be a fool, I'd rather bet £1k on black at the roulette table than expect a 21 year old in a RWD convertible not to have an accident, and that's including personal experience as well as generalisations.

This thread has been a long time coming, but it could herald a new era with insuramce gripes

"I shouldn't pay more because I've had an accident / got points etc, as I'll never do it again. All you other drivers should pay more instead"

We had similar with the guy complaining his travel insurance was high after a heart attack, even though he now lives more healthily than the rest of us.

He was actually arguing for a discount for having had a heart attack.
