If the reg number on a parking ticket does not match your car, would you pay it?

They will chase payment from the registered keeper of the car which has the registration number on the ticket. So... no, I wouldn't pay it.

As above; I wouldn't pay it.

Wait for a letter to be sent through to your address; no letter, no payment.

If it was a private company then no. If it's a police/council ticket then yes pay it.

Why? If it isn't the registration of your car, why on earth would you pay it.

OP, how much of a difference are we talking about here? Is it something like an I instead of an L, or is the whole thing different?

Don't they take photo's of the car as backup, so would know the correct registration?

If it's just a little mistake like 1 letter wrong such as a V instead of a Y then this does not invalidate the ticket.

Correct, but why chase it?

If they notice the error and post him a payment reminder then it's a fair cop. If they don't notice and eventually give up, then the OP has got away with it.

Had somebody removed the ticket off OP's windscreen, he'd be none the wiser until a letter arrived anyway.

How does the OP even have the ticket? I guess it was put on the windscreen. Therefor pretty obvious it's for that car.

If it's council, pay now while it's cheaper. They will only look at the photos and send out a reminder (with a higher amount) when they see no payment has been made.

Ticket was on my car, but the mistake is the last letter, should be a W but they read it as an N

Tried to pay on line, and tried every character for the last letter and the penalty charge can't be found, so now what?

i'd phone them fella and explain the situation and that you have tried to pay but it won't accept it.

they might be nice and say not to bother or cancel it.

more likely they will say that it hasn't reached their system yet, because this is only the 21st century and data transfer to and from the interweb is a pipe dream from mobile devices smile
