I'm with the clean air Robin Hoods here - these things don't even have Stop/Start tech afaik - even though they sit still half the time in bus stops churning out fumes that are going to hit us gentle and saintly Euro6 compliant Twin Turbo Diesel drivers in the wallet any day soon...

It's not like the buses in the photo's are actually smoking excessively. Does the OP have an axe to grind with bus companies I wonder.?
Another thing, if there were no buses then the roads there would be even more busy with sad people looking for smokey buses !

Thing is though, nobody does anything about it. Everyday I see buses from a local company chucking out the most ridiculous amount of smoke. This isn't just when pulling away from a stop, it's even when they're blatting along a dual carriageway. Every so often councillors and others raise the question of thus company, missing services, late services, badly maintained buses, a few months back we went a few weeks and there was one of the vehicles broken down a couple of times a week, no response to customer issues, one of the buggers even had to make an emergency stop and evacuate passengers pron to as it had caught fire. But all the meetings and shaming has bugger all effect.no haven't reported any, what is the flicking point?

Yet in my Euro5 diesel I'm the spawn of Satan apparently soon to be charged something or other, having to drive at reduced speed over stretches of motorways due to the most dubious piece of research since climate change science, having to put up with half of the road closed off for bus lanes that hardly ever have one if these stinky smoky heaps of ste in them, complete with vanity plates just to hide how old the bloody things are.

Try having ancient crap like this as public transport then you'll know what a dirty bus is. This heap is still in use around Cumbernauld as far as I know.

And for ferrying kids on the school run they use this

Bit disappointed with this thread...

Thought I was going to see pictures of a bus covered in poo and wee - both inside and out.
I thought the bus was going to have naked women inside, or pictured on the outside.

Very disappointed indeed. mad
I thought it might have humped the OP's leg.

Things may be different far outside of TfL-land, but within their domain you'll find stop-start, hybrid, hydrogen, and fully-electric vehicles. Some non-TfL operators who run routes into London also have low-emissions buses in their fleets.

Nobody does anything about it because he's clearly got nothing better to do with his life than put in pointless complaints. Get a hobby, get a girlfriend, get a life!

Or, if you have nothing better to do and no hope of getting a hobby or girlfriend, why not make yourself a hobby of (and perhaps get a date out of!) calling up the modern day stasi who run this sort of thing.

There's busses in Glasgow with adverts on the back encouraging you to call the council up to report 'engine idling'. Seriously.

If I'm in Scotland visiting my folks and stuck in traffic I do sometimes call them up and waste their time and generally be a mild nuisance (nothing abusive or unpleasant - just spurious vague mutterings wasting their time) - I think it's important to do stuff like that to make these snitch schemes uneconomic to run, since we have no other way of stopping them.
