It sounds as if the OP dodged a totting ban through some kind of administrative cockup anyway?

He had 6 points at the time of the offence, the fact 3 expired between offence and conviction is (or would ordinarily be) moot.
I thought the OP made it clear the mags. decided not to impose the 6 months totting up ban.
That is incorrect the magistrate decided to give 6 points instead of a ban for the speeding offence he attended court for.

Since it's up to the mags. whether to impose a ban they evidently decided not to in this case both for the specific offence and totting up.

Guy's Guys, keep it under 100 (indicated) and you're in FPN land.

I'm relieved i'm still on the road, surly it's not good to have a ban on your record? The mag did ask if i can take from work/holiday and i said no. I will be driving like a 80 yr old now biggrin or at least making sure i'm onnit with speed limits. I did think i made them laugh though as i asked them do i have a choice regarding my punishment and they burst out laughing, maybe i lightened the atmosphere.

Indicated is the key word.

I'd expect 99 to be 96 or less, but you may want a little more margin for error.

Depends a lot on the particular car - 1 of ours (4 yrs old) is bang on accurate according to GPS so assuming a margin for error on speedo could be risky unless tested.

Careful with assumptions about speedo error. You'll get 2% deviation depending simply on the condition of a single set of tyres, and that's before one gets into disparities across different tyre brands.
