Post the legislation that makes middle lane hogging a specific offence - don't spend too long looking for it because it doesn't exist.

The link you posted is about the change in the law which allowed conditional offer tickets to be issued for careless driving (which could cover middle lane hogging) there were no new offence created.

Why must people drive 'fast' all the time ? What's wrong with starting out ten minutes earlier and drive moderately while taking in the scenic views ?.........This is NOT a trolling attempt.

Define fast? I think the concern is that 45mph on a 70mph motorway in the middle lane can cause a danger to other road users.

Why do people always assume people driving at a faster speed than them must be in a hurry.

You could not be more wrong if you tried.

As Cat says, post specific legislation. The link you gave shows careless driving as the offence not lane hogging.

Here you go http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/first-driver-...

and here http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/news/10240592/...

Lane hogging is now classed as anti social driving and you can be stopped and fined plus given points for doing it

New legislation came into force a while back it just hasnt been used much.

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/motoring/police-...

The difference is that previous to the legislation change there was no ability to give an on the spot fine and points, it had to go to court and was so complicated it was never prosecuted. The new legislation means you can now be given an FPN for a number of things including lane hogging/wrong lane use.

Whilst driving the driver should be concentrating on the road not taking in the scenic views. Those wanting to take in the scenic views can go on a bus. Being higher up you get a better view as well.

These are links to poorly written, misinformed, news articles about the fact that in 2013 legislation was introduced to allow conditional offers to be issued for careless driving. They are not links to the legislation which supposedly makes middle lane hogging a specific offence.

You said:-

"New legislation came into force a while back it just hasnt been used much."

and

"previous to the legislation change"

and

"The new legislation means"

What is this new legislation? What act and section now make middle lane hogging a specific offence?

ok, so I should have said 'my understanding is' as Im not a lawyer or policeman and have to rely on news sources and google for my information. But I think this clarifies the point - found on a lawyer blog:

Strictly speaking there has not been any new legislation introduced in respect of anti-social driving, however, as of 16 August 2013 careless or inconsiderate drivers can now face ‘on the spot’ penalties when previously their driving may have resulted in proceedings at court. A fixed penalty for careless or inconsiderate driving is now £100 with an endorsement of three penalty points on the driver’s licence. If the standard of driving is considered too serious for this penalty the matter will proceed to court.

It has been widely reported that middle lane hogging is considered anti-social for the purpose of issuing an FPN however you are correct, there is no specific legislation.

My Understanding of what I have seen on the news and on many websites is that this gives police the discretion to issue an FPN rather than it having to go to court thereby simplifying the process.

In reality I guess its not that simple or we would be seeing a lot of people being fined for it and we dont.

Dialling the cops for this is a little dull.

I find that orbiting them is much more fun where conditions allow.

these nuts are all over our motorways, though that speed is particularly low. I pass them on the left rather than risking four unnecessary lane changes and make sure I sound my horn from a few yards back to a few ahead. If everyone did this they'd get the message. Well a message, and perhaps when they tell a grown up they may receive the education they need.

Unfortunately most people fail to sound their horn as they pass. Yes I know that's not what it's for according to the highway code but I don't care, these folks need a wake up call. What better than a constant stream of cars coming past sounding their horns?
You blow the horn whilst doing a left side pass and wake up the dopey knobber who then pulls over into lane 1 just as you're passing...I wonder what the outcome of that would be?
I think the outcome would be that the dopey knobber then pulls over into lane 1 behind the horn blower, because the horn blower is travelling faster and the knobber will need some time to react.

Me too, even though it's illegal, but I do it, at a legal speed, to make a point they're going too fking slow and are in the wrong fking lane!

From my experience lane hoggers are in their own little world. I've seen them passed by cars on both sides and they still sit in the middle lane. If you flash them sometimes they move into L1 as you pass and then they move back into L2 for no reason.

Subject for another post could be what non standard accessory would you like on your car? I'd have James Bond type rocket launchers so I could blow lane hoggers to oblivion.
