How about some mousetraps set very carefully in the postbox, so when he puts his hand in to get the mail...

You'd have to set this after the post had been delivered or you'd not be very popular with your postie!

I wouldn't assume the police officer knows every aspect of criminal law!

From a layman's perspective, it sounds like it might fall under the above. Unfortunately from the police's point of view, while it's highly annoying and disruptive for you, they probably don't consider it a priority. Can you change the lock on you post box?

ETA: Is it a previous occupier who is still getting stuff sent there? And has decided to just take the lot (like a tt)

yeah, we're in the process of arranging at least new locks, but ideally new mailboxes.

The frustrating thing for me is that i know what he looks like and i know roughly where he came from, and i know exact times - so have a quick look at the cameras? I think the main thing is trying to convince them that a crime took place. The only way they seem interested is if i can follow him, where i will get "at best" a 15 min response time. I don't want to have to try and follow this guy for 15 minutes!

So turning up with a key, opening your mailbox and taking your stuff is not a crime? Really?

OP - are you any post adrift or has he only taken documents he's ordered from banks etc. If not = theres no theft to record.

Once the item has been delivered - its no longer deemed to me in the postal/mail system

he had no reason to turn up today, he's got everything that he has "ordered" - and i know of at least three items of post that i have requested that have never arrived. 1 personal, 2x bank stuff. By my count this has been going on since April at least. Every single person in the block of 5 has had the same thing happen in the last 12 months, but from my footage he is only looking at my mailbox just now.

also to add - it's definitely not the last occupier and they were here for quite a while. Whether they are connected though, i don't know.

Best I could do, most of his face is literally pure black, no info there.

leaving the camera where it was today all day is not the best, but if i can then i will mount it higher up, looking down to avoid backlight from the sky.

I'd be getting a comprehensive view of your credit file if I were you, OP. It may reveal recent searches consistent with applications for finance.

Fair enough. Is it not plain old theft then? In which case the police ought to be interested.

If you catch him kick fk out of him. The cheeky st.

You can bet the police would be interested then but sadly to your detriment.

Worth it thoughlaugh

the problem seems to be what is classified as stolen. I have had mail stolen, i know this because i can detail a total of 8 different things that have been sent but not received (5 from "him" and three from me). This however, doesn't seem to be enough!

Police will need to know WHATS been stolen - and youll need to confirm missing items were actually delivered and havent gone astray elsewhere in the postal system - frustrating I know.

Have you spoken to your bank and cancelled everything and opened up a new account, credit cards etc.You can arrange to do all this in the branch,on line or over the phone so no need for the bank to send any mail.

I think you can get some liquid stuff that you paint on your letters that is invisible so when the thief touches the letter he will have a bright coloured dye on his hands.Follow him home and call the police so they can find all your documents at his home.Job done.

Write him a letter telling him you know what he's up to and that you have him on cctv and will forward to the Police if he doesn't stop.

All accounts that he has tried to access have all been changed and all my mail is going to the local branch. Any account he hasn't accessed so far is aware of the situation.

I'll have my mail held at the post office once I've heard back from the landlord about our new mailbox.

Overall I'm not too concerned for my finances as I've caught everything he has done before it has had a chance to cost me anything. If anything, that's the problem.

I'll go back today and wait for him and this time try not to lose him.
