Received this morning for a speeding offence on the M1 in Northampton on the 18th.

The problem is its in my name, but the car I've never owned....

Tried to call on the number on the NIP but lines are busy and I'm going away on hols soon.

Any suggestions as to what to do?

Thanks,

J

Send it back with a letter saying not me.
Have a cigar, go on holiday.

Thanks!

I did get through to speak to someone.

Apparently the owner (who I have never met or know) has decided that it was me driving her car.

So, thanks Mrs Patel (whoever you are), your NIP for doing 66 on the M1 Northbound roadworks at junction 15a on the 18th July is on its way back to you.

How do you prove it was not you?

You could be lying.

I could be lying....

Unfortunately I'm not as I was in London at the time, getting pissed and eating dinner in Chopshop with my wife.

I'm sure the photographic evidence of the driver would confirm that it wasn't me as I'm white and male, not female and Indian and therefore couldn't be driving.

Unfortunately there is one of my old websites that does have my name and address on so that could of been it.

Breadvan- thank you for your confirmation.

When this happened to me, they used the details from my DL from my stolen wallet.

Except in my case, they informed the police that I'd also moved address so I was written to at a house I'd never lived at too, and taken to court and convicted, of course without any knowledge.

It's an organised scam - report it to the police.

Attempting to pervert the course of justice, perhaps? That'll cost her a lot more than just paying up in the first place; unless she's on 9 points already.

Except she is probably an important company director and losing her licence would make 200 people unemployed smile

No-one called Patel is likely to be wearing a Burkha BTW - try Hussain, Khan, etc (or Lewthwaite of course)

Are you going abroad?

There might be trouble coming back through passport control....

This smells of racism, and transphobia to me.

Put simply; Mrs Patel is currently transitioning.
She identifies as a Black Male, and to onlookers, would appear as such.

To imply that she is an "Indian Woman" based on her name is just ignorant.

Since you appear to be personally acquainted with Mrs Patel, indeed sufficiently so to identify this person from the details of the OP's posts, I am sure the OP will be more than happy to refer the police in your direction to assist with their enquiries.
