Lividly unhappy if the deaths were from a consumer tv show rather than a real emergency.

If no track is available then don't film it, you cant replace lives. Imagine telling traffic plod you had bald tyres because none were available or the shops were shut.

Risk assessed or not there is still risk here that can be avoided by not doing it, do we really have to endanger people just to film a consumer tv show.
It wasn't done for the TV show, it was being done and the TV crew following the story filmed it.

Ok fair point, but still no need on a public road, why not wait until a track is available. where's the emergency to do this testing that they had no choice but to use public roads.

As we keep getting told - SPEED KILLS!!!!!!

Given the time it took to get up to speed there probably isn't a track or airfield with a long enough straight.

All that jazz

500hp tractor unit with nothing coupled to it will out-accelerate the vast majority of cars with a competent driver that knows how to block shift.

At those speeds the aerodynamics will have a huge effect though, surely. Given the gearing is designed to get a large weight rolling and up to the limited speed I expect 0-56 could be done fairly briskly but acceleration would tail off pretty rapidly.

It is many years since I have been to an actual live truck race but I promise you that those things don't give 2 hoots about the laws of physics until well over 90 odd. mph.

There also take a fair amount of stopping from those speeds as well...

They're more than a little tuned, no?

Iirc they're limited to 100 due to the stopping issues, I've seen one that came off at Pembrey that was caught by the fence just before the trees having crossed a gravel trap and tyre wall. eek

Hence the twin calipers and water cooling on the brakes. Without the brakes would last less then 1 lap
