For those who are not local, have local knowledge, or aren't clued up.

West Mercia HQ is about 5 miles from Junction 6 of the M5.

There are more Jam Sarnies and Unmarked cars and vans round there than you cam shake a stick at and it's a happy hunting ground for them.

OP's pace will have been a sore thumb and even the most philosophical and time pressed traffic cop could have turned a blind eye. I've even had words of advice for overtaking a van up the slip road a while back. He wasn't impressed apparently.
Not any more, CMPG only have a handful of vehicles based at Hindlip now. They have been doing late night speed checks recently though so OP won't have been the only person who's been caught out.

You're a bit out of date aren't you? confused

West Mercia went up market years ago and ditched the "Jam Sarnies" - They prefer Battenberg these days (and have for quite a few years now!).

The only time you'll see a "Jam Sarnie" up at Hindlip today is when they're having a display of old patrol cars! (Or in a sandwich box!) wink

if I get ban, can I just bail out to Australia for the duration? No chance I'm staying in the UK if I can't drive...!
You can go, but they no longer require a criminal past in order to enter. hehe

Maximum ban will be 56 days but you can reduce this with good mitigation

I recently got 2 week ban & £400 fine for 127mph on Dual carriageway & this was North Wales who are notoriously strict. (Admittedly I had strong mitigation & good representation)

Just be aware that if you drive over there limits are generally lower and are much more harshly enforced.

Wrong. 56 days is the guideline maximum for speeds up to and including 110 mph. OP was going a bit faster. There is no maximum ban. I identified earlier that the court may decide that a ban of at least 56 days is merited where the speed is "off the scale". E.g. my 144 mph case, 3 month ban.

Obviously I am a touch out of date then with the down scaling of ops from there. The last time I drove by a month or so back it still looked very active but that must just have been a time of day thing.

The Jam Sarnies/Battenberg thing was more of a generalist comment as with those who still call them Panda cars!

Thanks for the heads up anyhow though.

I occasionally go that way down to Brizzle, and not often all that slowly.

The only cars working out of HQ are a few CMPG cars and the endangered Dog section. The CMPG cars have to cover the M5,M42.M6,M54,M50. Being near J6 of the M5 doesn't mean there's any cars there.
