The new Average speed cameras on the A40 /westway West Lond
Discussion
I could indeed be being absurd to suggest that possibility, however you could also very well be being quite naive.
Its no one's job to make fewer rules or laws or to turnover less money. Especially if your livelihood depends on it. That is as certain as coppers getting younger! E.g:

Why have a box that reports you when it can just limit the speed at which the vehicle can travel?
You are being alarmist as it fits your agenda, fess up!
That said, in ten years I'd be amazed if a human is allowed to control a car on the motorway.

I hope I am being an alarmist drama queen...or do I just see a pattern and have an inkling of human thought patterns when in authority? I remain to be convinced that everything is done is in my best interest!
We already have speed limiters in certain vehicles but I guess we need our liberties curtailed and life made a bit more officious, punitive and miserable before we will accept them wholesale?
I'm ready for mine now and to go cheek to jowl with everyone on the motorway with wallet and license intact on arrival at destination. Progress!

Be prepared to be amazed then!
I predict that there will not be an affordable, practical driverless car in my lifetime.
How old are you and what sort of physical shape are you in? I predict that there will not be an affordable, practical driverless car in my lifetime.
Pending the answers to those two questions I'd be prepared to wager a fairly substantial amount of cash on this one.

Having travelled the A40 now several times from Hanger Lane to the M40 the two interesting observations are that the spactards in clapped out Vauxhalls or newly rented Mercs weaving in and out of lanes causing a trail of braking in their wake seem to have gone but in the NSL section the reality that most drivers believe this to mean 60mph means that many are cruising at 55 but not pulling over as any faster is illegal and they are in the right, or whatever mechanism it is that makes drivers do this. They used to drive at 70 and just break to 60 for the last camera.
I think that what average speed cameras do is drop the average speed well below the limit so something they ought to do is reinstate the original positioning of the NSL to reflect this.

I get that you think I develop the argument beyond a point you (with your better crystal ball ) accept. And I really hope its you who is right. But then this is quite absurd too: http://www.itv.com/news/anglia/update/2015-11-03/f...Disgusting little money maker, being show for what it is. Making £100k a month....

To be fair it is a tax that purely targets terrible and stupid drivers. http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/westway-spee...
the ones on the north circ near hanger lane to ikea wembley don't seem to be live yet - I noticed last few days they have intermittently been 'lit up' for periods of time ie the row of four lights have a grid of led's on them that light up and light the road immediately in front of them. I think they are installing / testing them at the mo. Might try and take a pic if I see them lit up next week.

They've been like that for a while, going all the way to where I live in Finchley and beyond. No average speed signs so assuming they're not live yet.

Whether you agree with the system you do have to be proper stupid to not understand what the word average means or the big numbers on the signs.
How monumentally superior you sound than decent working people.
As ever thin end of the wedge - they are rolling them out on $everal more roads according to the report already. This to avoid '31 serious accidents' over 3 years? Why do I just not buy that or believe it credible? Is it just me?

Because you have to be monumentally thick to get caught by average speed cameras and we would all benefit from such tards not being on the roads. And I am monumentally superior to a fktard who doesn't understand what 40 and average mean. Whether average camera systems are any good or should be used is a totally separate issue.

Whereas one single speed camera site on this stretch was bringing in £360k/month:http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/westway-spee...

Can't see '£360k/month' in the article, it rated the top earner at '£568,080 a year' or £47K/month ???http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-20...
