Serious advice please. Found shrapnel in our baby's nappies.
Discussion
Just seen the Star article. Bit OTT but gets the story across.
As an aside OP - and I know that your daughters health is first in mind - but food for thought.
Using full names and pics in this day an age is a tricky one - they don't really need your full names for the story - but I feel slightly sorry for any future teenager - as baby pics etc will be picked up by teenage peers with a few seconds on Google (or whatever is about in 2028) - and kids can be very cruel.
I've been very careful to only allow pics of my daughter on controlled (locked down) Facebook and Flickr accounts.
Just a thought, and glad that the company is responding.

Well to bring a bit of balance it hasn't been too dissimilar a response from you has it? Your wife's post on facebook is just as sensationalist talking about septicemia whilst providing no actual useful information to people like the batch number, just getting people to share an ambiguous post.
Large companies deserve (a lot of) stick at time but I do feel for P&G in this because they now have to deal with a social media st storm full of misinformation being shared like fact and absolute truth. As mentioned they responded within 9 minutes of being informed and are following established procedures to resolve it, not really much more that you can ask them to do really.

The product code has been shared on Facebook many hundreds of times, once we were made aware of it. It's printed in tiny letters in the nappy itself, we couldn't find it. Amazingly since it went to press trading standards have gone from being too busy to allocate it for the next week to having officers in two counties working on the case and asking if we still have the nappies.... Op, shocking news and not something you'd be inclined to see when fitting. Although I suspect many will be taking a closer look from now on!
Btw, if you return the nappies to pampers, I trust you will hold onto a few yourself, for evidence just in case they go missing en route to p and g! Ahem!
Although distressing for you all. Take solace that kids are very resilient on all levels and in a few weeks it will all be forgotten. However, I too would be a little more cautious regarding privacy as in the modern world anything hitting the news or social media is easily searched ad infinitum.
Good luck with it all.

Oh my good god.
Never ceases to amaze me:
a) how many people don't actually read the f OP
b) how many people abuse the OP / make stuff up that that the OP never posted, just to score points
c) how many people are just fg morons, intent on trolling for no reason - and yes, calling someone "princess" while making an otherwise only slightly stupid point marks you out as a tt
To the OP, I hope your daughter is OK
This. Some of the people on here are nothing more than argumentative, sarcastic and unintelligent morons - or at least that's how they present themselves. Never ceases to amaze me:

It's becoming increasingly common on here which is a shame but society isn't getting any better with regard to how people treat each other is it?
OP , I'm glad your little girl has been spared ongoing suffering from this problem , and I think you handled it as well as any distressed parent might ( my kids are well beyond the nappy stage but I know how their problems are the most important thing in the world to a parent ) .
I'm also glad that the manufacturer is dealing with this .
My only minor criticism is that this is the first I'd heard of this , so I wonder if the word is being spread as well as it might ?
Like many people , I don't 'do' Facebook or Twitter ( hence the links earlier in this thread don't work for me ) although I appreciate that many people do ; I also don't regularly buy newspapers , again in this day and age many people don't , and get my news mainly from TV , Radio and the Internet . Have you contacted the BBC - this should be on the TV news or some of the consumer programmes like 'Watchdog' ?
The more people are made aware of this issue the better ; it is perfectly possible that some people have bought these nappies but haven't opened them yet .

Sorry for the bump, but we have an update.
After getting a professional photographer to take detailed photos we sent the nappies off to P&G via their doorstep collection courier. We had an email yesterday announcing the end of their investigation, and the gist of it is that:
ETA: Asda never did reply to us about the whole thing. We chased them several times, supplied contact details three times, and never heard a peep back.
Thanks to those who responded positively to the thread. I honestly half wish we hadn't bothered.

- The nappies do contain shards of sharp metal.
- A machine on their factory floor suffered mechanical failure at 10.32 on 17th July 2015.
- The part was replaced, but pieces of the old part were left in the machine.
- Said pieces then shattered into nappies, which we subsequently purchased.
- Despite passing '500 sensors and metal detectors' the shards went undetected because of their 'small size and unique angle'.
- P&G are very sure ours are the only nappies to be affected, and all the others are completely unrelated(!).

It does not seem like a real effort from the Manufacturer. You'd have thought 6 months of nappies would be more appropriate... I suppose there's a level where they don't want to encourage fraudsters, but equally where there nappies have gone out carrying shards of metal for whatever reason, and where it's caused injury they should be aiming to make a real and genuine effort to put in place some restitution in whatever format is appropriate - not bartering. A good example was the Alton Towers crash. Their reaction was a really good example of how to minimise bad PR. I'm guessing the Nappy company are a little annoyed that you went to the press.
As for hate mail, I was initially surprised, then thought actually meh - if you invite the Daily Star and Mail into your homes I'm not that surprised.
Thats a pretty piss poor response. I really don't subscribe to the compensation brigade, but in this instance i'd be seeking some legal advice. Some sort of public admission from them wouldn't go astray. I hope you take some action against the people who have sent you hate mail, that person claiming to be a doctor who sent you abusive mail needs some attention one way or another. Even if if is a drubbing through the trash mags.

I wouldn't care for free nappies after this. We didn't speak directly to journalists or have anyone at the house, it all got released by a single media agency. None of which is an excuse for the vitriol and death threats received. C'est la vie.A good example was the Alton Towers crash. Their reaction was a really good example of how to minimise bad PR.
