I think you are stuffed legally but it owuld be prudent for retaielrs to make clear Office 365 is a little different to the standard version of MS Office as most people may not be aware.

read the latest distance selling regs. They cannot contract out of them just because they want to. But, they could make a deduction from the refund to reflect your use.

Read the regs - they're simple enough to understand.

I see where you're coming from OP however regarding the Xbox subscription...

I'm assuming if you purchased a Xbox One that shipped with a subscription to Xbox Live, you'd know it wasn't perpetual? The same is true here.

True but I honestly did not know the new office was subscription based.

Surely they should have said if it was 12 months, 1 month, 3 months etc?

Possibly a bit of a clue in the 365 after Office?

If there is more than one option for office365 then should they not show this? I honestly not aware it was subsription based until after i tried to activate my copy.
There are only two options, and it was hardly going to be £70 per month. Is it only me that does at least a bit of research before diving into a purchase, rather than relying on luck? You could have found this out within about 60 seconds of typing "Office 365" into a search engine.

It wasn't subscription for office 2007, I had no idea it would be for this one. I didn't question it. Lesson learnt.

Yep, I agree - at the very least they should have included the fact that it is a subscription.

It's a poor description by Littlewoods.

It must just be me, but I'm struggling with a PC that sports an i3 processor for £689?

Can't you sue them for taking the piss?

I paid a lot less than that for an i7 laptop 2 years ago.
And that had a 2gig gfx card.

I never picked up on this subtlety hehe - it was when I tried to buy Office365 and it said the cost was £6 (or whatever) per month (rather than a one-off lump sum which I was clearly not alone in expecting from reading this thread), that I realised it was an ongoing monthly subscription.

This is a significant difference to the days of paying once for ownership of the damn thing for eternity, and I am surprised nay concerned that people aren't spotting this before they commit nuts .

I also would not have been aware of what this product is , never having used any form of Office ( I am a Mac user and always used Claris/AppleWorks then iWork for that sort of stuff ) .

However , I know that subscription software is the industry's answer to piracy and have been quite happy to take out my Adobe Creative Cloud subscription which is inexpensive ( compared to buying a full version of Photoshop every few years ) and keeps itself up to date with minimal hassle .

Why? I used OO for a few years before I got MS office free with a new PC. Unless you're into very sophisticated stuff, OO is fine.

Yes, that occurred to me.
