People still pay these invoices? I thought it had become a commonly accepted fact to blank the thieving bds.

In what universe is a (currently outmoded, but watch this space*) suggested course of action a "fact"? In what universe is trying to stop freeloaders parking on property for nowt "thieving"? Oh, silly me, I had forgotten that we all have an inalienable right to park wherever we like.

* In the meantime, do some research, as things have developed a bit in this field.

My local Waitrose car park is always packed.
Next door is the health center with a tiny car park and opposite is a reasonable size pay and display.

Where do you think everyone parks ( for free) ?

Makes great business sense and looks after your paying customers.
Sounds like my local in WB.

One aspect I've heard about these cameras in local authority car parks is that the local authority gets a payment from DVLA for each untaxed car they report. Maybe Lidl and other supermarkets get the same.
How can a camera tell if your car is taxed? confused

This all seems a little bit FUD so far.

Where's the actual policy specified?

If I go to my local LIDL it's not in town so you wouldn't park there for anything other than going to LIDL so I don't even know if they have these or not - but if they do why is it such a big deal if you're not simply freeloading by using their car park?

You need to think again, things have moved on and as BV said we are waiting for a judgement.

My 86 year old mother often overstays her time at Aldi, I think she is just a bit slow and stops for a chat on her way round. I just call them with her receipt details and the charge is cancelled - no arguments.

The local authority has access to the DVLA records. Any of us can put a reg number into the DVLA system and it will show if the car is taxed or not.

Do you really think in these days of austerity the local council will employ someone to trawl through supermarket car park CCTV and type every car registration into the government website to see if they're taxed?

Depending on what the Supreme Court finds, those people could soon be ignoring at their peril.

Personally I would hope the SC would agree that the 'charges' levied by private parking companies are clearly punitive and far from being an appropriate amount for an hour's parking.

Then again I am not a legal eagle and know nothing on the subject.

These wibble parking threads are hilarious and this comment is just perfect. If you like repeating garbage here's one for you:

Lidl and Aldi have many letters in their names that are the same in Illuminati, only the D isn't used and that's because it's there in tribute to Walt Disney and his Nazi leanings. Hitler's main election policy was a car for the people ie Volkswagen and that was purely so that he could coin it in with the parking enforcement businesses he set up in Eva Braun's name in 1947 from his hideout in Southern Argentina.

It's all making sense now isn't it?

Hey I always thought he was behind the parking scams. Do tanks in Poland also have to pay if they overstay their 6 years alloted time?

So can we all pop round to your Lidl and park for free without entering the store? Could combine it with a car meet for PH's!

That's an idea, as they don't have a barrier either, and, it's next to Mcdonalds smile

It's not supermarket car park cctv but local authority car park cctv. And yes it does happen as it's one of the tasks a friend's wife does in her job at the council. Obviously the payment from the DVLA to the council makes it worthwhile as a profit earner for the council.

Well well, no disrespect intended to anyone but who to believe? The above or the serial wibble knockers in the previous page.

Hmmm.

Seem to recall a thread about the Met stopping cars on the demand of private bailiffs pursuing council fines, and those who knew better scoffed just the same.

DVLA pays contractors a backhander to drive around with ANPR looking for untaxed cars, this is simply another source of ANPR data combined with being used information. Still find it's surprising if the financials stack up for a council but you never know.

Pass but intriguing nevertheless.

Am I missing the point of this thread?

Went to Aldi yesterday, did my shopping, and then entered my reg no at the till and then drove home. No drama and no charges because I was using the supermarket's own car park to shop in their store. I am flummoxed what the issue is? The car park was nice and empty as it was occupied by customers rather than shoppers using the main shopping centre across the road. Perfect solution if you ask me.

Btw 1 hour in Aldi? I did it in about 20 minutes and I am a woman, and we can shop! What were you doing for an hour?

Yes I fear so.

There are far to many selfish drivers who don't like restrictions being imposed on where they can and cannot park.
