Last years insurance:
Golf GTD, 6 years ncd, 2 non fault claims, 18k a year SDP + small business allowance, work in IT and lived at home with folks. Cost was 534

This year, same situ, now with 7 years ncd except I'm now living with the Mrs a mile down the road (virtually same postcode) and the cheapest I can find is 660 odd quid!

Theres no point to this just a little narked.

You're living with the missus, therefore a higher risk of losing everything, so they are milking you while they can. biggrin

True! Thing is the cheapest quote is a company called 1st central who I've never heard of!

The next cheapest is about 150 quid more.

Can get it for around 600 but need to have a black box fitted :/

It's more the big jump, If it stayed around the same I could live with that (around the 500 mark) but other than that one quote of 660 most have been in the 800s.

Also don't think putting in my folks address will look too good if I crash as I am quite obviously not living there any more.

Have you checked the crime stats for your new postcode? Clearly the insurance companies seem to think you now live in a sttier area.

Is your new Mrs on your insurance? It can quite often bring a premium down significantly if she is of a similar age. The flip side is if she's not, especially if she has her own car then it can push the premium up.

Or try adding one of the parents as named driver. Assuming they are low risk it can reduce the quote. I am on my daughters policy which brings the price down as well as allowing me to drive her car fully comp should I need to.

How much is the quote if you put in the exact same details as last year?
i.e. with no changes other than one years more no claims.

My insurance is with 1st central. 3 out of the last 4 years I think. They were cheapest by a good margin and I was a bit skeptical initially but the price difference was to good to ignore.

Have had the misfortune of making 2 claims with them but they were spot on, dealt with everything well and was all resolved quickly.
Goes to show, cheap doesn't always mean dodgy!

Does adding your other half lower or raise the cost?

If I run a quote identical to last year it was around 580 ish,

I did have both parents on but my dad had a fault accident in June so I've sacked him off, cheapest I have got now is 646 with mother as a named driver. Adding the Mrs was an extra 30-40 quid l think

You could try calling a broker rather than online portal?

Saffron have been good for me.

Or try a VW specialist like https://www.hertsinsurance.com/our-policies/
No experience with them, but worth a shot.

I have used brokers previously but were no-where near, can try again though.

Did a direct quote with that 1st central and got it to 662 with the mrs on (she will probably never drive it but just in case)

Think that might be most likely option at the moment

My daughter does that as her car (and her licence) are registered here, but she declares correctly where the car is normally parked overnight (in an open public car park). Have been through the scenario with the insurer (LV=) and they're fine with it. Premium is normal - under £300.

Just guessing here but OP's issue could be that he hasn't been at the address for long. Also he won't come up on the electoral role. Is the house rented? Living with girlfriend is probably regarded as higher risk than living with parents.

As others mentioned, postcode could be the issue - there's a story somewhere of a guy who moved a very short distance literally around the corner and his insurance leapt.

Mine did but that would mean I would have to let her drive it

Years ago there was a street in the news where the postcodes were different on different sides of the street. Expensive insurance one side, cheap the other side. Apparently stemmed from a post office high up who wanted an earlier post delivery!

No idea if fixed now.
