Transferring my private plate to my new (secondhand) car . .

I'm taking delivery of my new (secondhand) car tomorrow and understand that the dealer will send off the V5 so that a new V5 is issued in my name. Do I have to wait until I receive this before I can apply to transfer the private plate off my existing car to my new car?

Not sure but you can do these things on the DVLA website very quickly now.

It might be worth a peep over there.

You can only do it online / instantly if it's already in your name and the plate is in your name, you will have to wait till you get the new docs back from the dvla
