I don't know why people are so sniffy about being dobbed in by cam. If you don't drive dangerously, it won't ever affect you.

If a police car had been present, the driver would have been stopped.

We all know the main problem on the roads is not speed, bur carelessness/aggression/impatience/poor judgement, so game on.

If enough people grass up really bad driving, the safer and more relaxed we can all drive.

Do you think the grasses will discriminate between different types of offence? I don't, the grasses will take it upon themselves to dob you in for driving faster than they like just as quick as they'll dob in the other guy for cutting them up.
I'd prefer to take my chances without the wannabee dashcam Plod.
I don't drive like the Audi in the video, but had I been the O.P. his driving might have got a sarcastic "Nice" from me before I moved on with my life. Had there been a subsequent incident then his dashcam footage might actually have been of some use, but as it is, do we really care?

Do normal 'grasses' not discriminate between offences? Or is it just those whom report driving standard offence who lack this ability?

That's what we want, to only be challenging criminal driving when we have an incident, not prior to one...

As it goes, being a roaduser does seem to engender a unique type of grass. Just look at all the helmets with dashcams riding cycles that often appear to go out of their way to create a problem. This attitude seems to be extending to drivers as well.

And what punishment do you think Mr Audi should get for his heinous crime that might have caused an incident but didn't?
He was probably far more aware of his/her surroundings than half the dopey idiots I see on a daily basis.
Roll on driverless cars. Zero individual control, zero personal responsibility and state sanctioned dozing at the wheel (if there is one). All for the love of the children.

What a hero you must feel....
Indeed. I look forward to the day the OP gets dobbed in for something by a dash cam warrior with only half the story...

It was an example of pretty hard wkery, so good that police are going to do 'something' about it. Hard wkery from Audi, but a display of pocket billiards from camera car.

The distance from the lights at the start of the vid to the junction where the van turns off is close to 330 metres.

OP takes 20 seconds to cover that distance, SQ5 takes about 13 - including all the speeding up/slowing down from both.

So OP's *average* speed is close to 37MPH. SQ5's is 55MPH.

I read a lot of threads on forums, but this post just makes me wonder what the future going to be like!!

The guy will get a knock on the door from the police about it will obviously try to deny/mitigate his behaviour unless he has a camera aswell (fingers crossed for Audi man here) is up for an arse kicking.

If he doesn't have a camera he will get one now!! ?????? and then he's got membership to the club. ?? Then he starts recruiting members to the club with his tail of DD by submitted evidence.

If he then convinces 2 people, they each convince 2 people it goes on and on. Also that's not inculding when Halfords have a sale etc...

And then the story goes on.

In the mean time everybody is moaning about speed cameras and can't see the see the real danger!!!

And no I'm not oblivious to the benefits in accident senario but reporting someone for what was basically an over committed overtake that was hindered (whats the rule about not speeding up while being overtake) so had to take action.

Can't excuse the driving of the Audi tbh.

Now I'd better get myself a camera. The one that shot the video looks like a good picture what was the mod............

I'm surprised that the Fiesta driver (in front of OP) hasn't come in for any criticism. He's clearly not seen the Audi in his mirrors or possibly blatantly ignored him, REFUSED to move over, thereby putting the Audi driver AND the drivers coming in the opposite direction in danger. Hopefully the police will be having a word with him as well

The Audi driver carried out at least one, and possibly two, dangerous overtakes. But the OP is a "grass".......

Jesus wept. The reason we have so many people driving like complete and utter twunts is because many others think it's acceptable.

A fair bit of 'thin end of the wedge fallacy' thinking here.

An offer of a Driver Improvement Scheme or an FPN for driving without due care and attention. It would depend on his previous points / convictions, if any.

Addressing very poor driving standards prior to them resulting in a collision is one of the ways we've helped reduce death on the roads.

Oh yes, he demonstrated superb awareness. It was only to be outdone by his judgement and actions.

Why, will a camera from his POV magically change the overtake?

I've not read the whole thread but from watching the Video:
  • SQ5 driver - Moronic and dangerous, unless he was being pursued by Velociraptors there is absolutely no excuse for that kind of driving. I hope the police do get involved and he is prosecuted
  • OP - didn't look like he accelerated to me, just that he was already travelling faster than the Fiesta and braked slightly later than he could have. I see no fault there
  • Fiesta - Just driving normally down the road, couldn't be expected to take evasive action for an idiot appearing behind him at hugely excessive speed then performing a supremely ill-judged overtake, he probably didn't even notice the SQ5 until it was in front of him.
