WTF is a 'mono speeder mk1 freelancer', never heard of them.
It's a mono speeder that has started working for himself for the first time.

Obviously.
I thought he was referring to one of these. He was glued to his dash cam, so he didn't quite get the model right:

nobody is going to be incriminated from footage of them going a bit over the limit during an overtake.

You know this for a fact do you? I've noticed there are more and more people who simply don't like being overtaken nowadays (headlights get flashed just because you might want to go faster than them) and the more prevalent dash cams become the more likely it is people like that will be offering their video as evidence of speeding to plod; whether they prosecute is another matter but surely the chances of drivers trying to do the equivalent of a citizens arrest on someone who's overtaken them must be likely to increase?
I'm comfortable that it isn't going to happen. Where is the proof of the car's speed?

I'm not. There's more muppetry in the world than anyone could imagine. See this, for example. (google translate may help). http://www.spiegel.de/auto/aktuell/dashcam-videoka...

The German approach looks interesting: Dashcams are allowed, but posting to Youtube etc isn't. And in Austria, dashcam = up to €10,000 euro fine!

That's a TV program, not a book. But I think I know what you meant...

Where on that page does it say anything about using dash cam footage to prosecute someone for speeding?

I read it like that. Agreed there was no prosecution (or even specific reference to speeding), but the mentality of telling the BiB about every minor infraction does absolutely exist.

I see your point and I agree that people will be sending more and more videos from their dash cams to the police. Where we seem to differ however is that I can't see this leading to a prosecution unless what you were doing at the time was blatently dangerous. I really think this could be a good thing.

Yes there some people on here who dead set against dashcams and think they are only used by bad drivers to catch other drivers doing minor speeding. Of course the millions have been done for a shad over the limit thanks to all these terrible dash cam users?!?!?

Never mind the 2tn weapon being used against incoming cars and cyclist.

Unless the driving looks very dangerous I cant see police taking action so I wouldn't worry.

Doh, you are quite right and I should know better, of course I meant 1984 by George Orwell, particularly the early chapters where Winston's neighbour's kids tell the authorities that their parents are criminals

They wouldn't need to: Your dashcam already has GPS and bluetooth, so all that's needed is built-in ANPR together with image processing to calculate speed delta of the other vehicle, and the points could be on your licence long before your got home. Also, insurers would love that sort of technology as it would give them telematics info (where/when/how fast) on almost any vehicle in shot.

I know that's tin-foil hat time, but even so...

Interestingly this is the second incident Avon and Somerset have taken an interest in which has dashcam evidence, the other one was of a stupid overtake on the Ilminster Bypass.
Its shut all the time for that very reason so not surprising really you got a link? Up until aug I was driving it daily.
Video was linked to on the Western Gazette website but I cant find it now.

Yea well again not simple speeding passing on the white line section clearly taking the mick.
