where??????????????
Last time I had something that *might* have gone to the breakers there was a place in Leeds giving 150 for delivered vehicles. One collected a mate's dead Astra for £100. Mind you, it was 5 years ago and the value of sh*tty worthless cars can go down as well as up. What's the going rate these days? Are we going back to the dark days of 2002 when steel was worth nowt and dead cars were dumped in ditches every few miles?

The OP posted lots of helpful advice in a car finance thread recently.

He sells cars. You could argue that this was a trade sale or even that the ebay vendor lexusfella/dude/g/bro is a rival.

A car salesman buying a car from an ebay trader sounds like a trade sale to me.

Wouldn't be a chance the car is roadworthy and its a bit tired for its age but a specialist who only deals with the finest specimens in all of Ennis shire thinks it's a load of junk.

I sell cars and on occasion customers have had them into specialists. On a recent performance car I had a very angry raging customer return to me as he had been to a specialist and it needed 2 drive shafts and only genuine manufacturer ones would do the job.

4 balanced wheels later... Specialists are something else.

Turns out the guy the OP bought the car from is somewhat notorious:

Delighted with mx5, i got a bargain & seller was very easy going, thanx mate

MAZDA MX5 1.8iS 97/R, 111K MILES FSH, FULL 12 MONTHS MOT, FINE DRIVE, NICE £750

You seemed very happy with both the car and the seller at the time...

although ad is a bit misleading:

Superb driving UK Spec 1.8iS BRG mx5 covering 111K miles with Full Service History to 90K miles, comprising 11 dealer stamps in service book, full 12 months mot until 12th Feb 2016 passed without advisories may I add, verifying the solid structural & mechanical condition of this little pocket rocket! Equipped with power steering, abs, electric windows, electric mirrors, LSD & original floor mats. The arches & sills are solid, hood is very good & water tight, nice Multi spoke 15"Calibre alloys, momo steering wheel. There is an up-rated JVC head unit delivering amazing sound with the benefit of playing mp3 CDs along with USB & aux connections. Mechanics are amazing, Engine, Gearbox, Clutch, brakes, exhaust & suspension are all fantastic, interior is clean as in pics, engine bay is clean without leaks. There are 2 working keys, original wallet, handbook, manual, service book, mot cert, all previous mots & everything works as it should.

The only aspects that let this car down are: the lacquer has peeled on rear driver side quarter panel, couple of small marks in accordance with age!

The car has been described as being both UK spec and a Eunos. It can't be both.

Someone has been faster than me into digging into the sellers feedback.
Link to it -

As above, he seemed happy enough with the car at the time. Even describes it as a bargain!
Suck it up, you've been had.
Next time, take a fking expert who knows what he's looking at!

If it wasn't for the water pump failing I hadn't intended to take the car to the garage for a month or so. It would have been terrible if, in that month, my wife had been involved in a serious accident because I had been duped into buying a car that was unsafe and provided with documentation to suggest that the basic fundamentals of the car were adequate.
Thing is, the MoT is only valid on the day it was produced.

The car could be in a very different condition a week after, let alone 7 or 8 months.

Also, the seller has 210 100% positive feedbacks on eBay.

How does that happen if he is selling dodgy cars?

Something doesn't stack up, eBay never ever tells you what sanctions they're going to take against a seller as a result of a dispute.

Trading standards wouldn't care about you being tucked up with a pup of a £700 import snotter.

That eBay feedback looks like the car concerned was purchased at least six months ago.

If you actually listen to the whole song, I dont actually think there is an example of irony throughout. Explains why Americans dont get it.

That's the irony. A song about irony written by someone that doesn't know the meaning of irony. See Ed Byrne circa 1990s
