With regard to getting 750 euro out at once, yes that was a pain in the arse. I had to go to 2 different banks, get 500 out on my HSBC debit card and then withdraw 250 on my Halifax Clarity credit card. Fortunately I phoned up the bank yesterday and they wavered any fees due to the emergency. Still about a 3% fee overall so about 20 euro in fees.
Wouldn't you have just stood at the same Cashpoint and used 2 different cards?Neonblau said:
Despite the appearance it's not really the "middle of nowhere", it's the hinterland between the port and the rest of France. I've made the trip out of Dunkirk quite a few times this year and a couple of things I've noticed every time. Firstly there are always police cars/bikes that just seem to be hanging about these roads, doesn't seem to matter what time - anyone clocking 90 is a free gift for them. Secondly these roads are crap. Most of them seem to be just the bare minimum layer of tarmac slapped down on whatever was there and not really designed for any kind of speed. The whole area looks like it's been railway sidings or something, a line still runs through it, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of these roads are designed with a short life pending redevelopment.
Fair enough, if you have local knowledge and the road condition isn't conducive to pressing-on.I have a stretch of road local to me - it's the first 60 limit on heading out of town, but only lasts 1/2 mile before dropping back down to 30 for the next village. I think it's only a matter of time before the council downgrade it to a 30. It's happening all around where I live. But I'll rue the day when it happens. We need to fight to cling onto the few opportunities where we can stretch our legs.

I wonder why that might be...

Could be, but I doubt it. The first couple of times I passed through I thought it was a couple of patrols having a break, but it looks like they are stationed there. They're not the national force and their little Renaults wouldn't be much use against a swarm of migrants. Surprising really given the proximity to Calais.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-34562209

Very nice driving, are you quite familiar with the track? Seems like you know your way around there.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTpTxGyVUJc

P.S. that Porsche flying by made me jump, shows you how quick those cars are.
Those Porsches can do 7 minute BTGs in the right hands. He was behind me from the top of Adenau forest but we kept about the same pace through those areas, but coming up to the fast bits I knew he'd be able to pass me so let him pass.

We came through Dunkerque in early August - quite a bit of the multiplicity of port roadways was in use as a stack for HGVs. There were a couple of throngs of a dozen or so poor sods - sub-Saharan Africans mostly, at a guess, certainly not from the Levant - wandering towards the port itself.
Interesting - I was last there in mid September and the place was empty. The HGVs were there and the weather was pretty wet. It's a vast area and I guess a few migrants could lose themselves in the wasteland. It is a real dump though and the actual terminal is probably one of the worst in Europe. Calais is more suited to a "storming of trucks" type attack as Dunkirk just seems empty most of the time.
But the fares are cheaper, I can get in and out of the place reasonably quickly and it suits my onward route.

Twice the speed limit is hardly a technical infringement
Exceeding the speed limit, by however much, is a technical infringement.Besides which, whether the speed limit is properly set for that road is a technical issue, so anything that stems from that must be a technical issue

Report your license as lost ...

I give up, I really do....
Yes, I know you're being "rhetorical" unless you do give up but you won't.
Really who gives a fk...licence...license. You know the meaning.
Minus 10 man points. The correct response in these situations is to slap them with your passport and point at the front and shout loudly 'Vous manger du fromage reddition singe'
Also, bad luck on the speeding front. Shame everyone has decided to go a bit postal about and get the pitchforks out.
