Replacement engine and insurance
Discussion
Quick one for the knowledgeable on here (I hope anyway)
had a manufacturer supplied like for like replacement engine fitted to my car, due to the old one suffering from excessive oil usage. Do I need to let my insurance co. know that it now has a new engine, even though it is the same spec as the old one?
Cheers,
Andy

In the same vein, I recently washed my Rover 25, gave it a good polish, changed from mineral to synthetic oil and it now looks really smart whereas before it looked a bit of a shed. I'm sure it's much quicker on Mobile 1 as well. Do I need to tell my insurance company?
In fact to make matters worse, I habitually pick my nose when driving and wipe it off on the seat. I realised that was pretty skanky so cleaned the seat too. I really ought to tell them didn't I?
Bert
Sorry

insurers often make it very clear ANYTHING which changes the appearance or performance of your car must be declared, so polish clearly counts, also the dirt you took off i assume that was previously declared anyway, that can now be taken off the policy.
They often advise you that anything which was not factory installed is a modification, so you must declare front and rear number plates, the dealer sticker in the window, luckily you don't have do declare tax disk holders any more, but if you have a parking permit, that obviously counts, as do air fresheners and phone / sat nave holders and chargers.

No, but might be a good idea to update the engine number on the V5
As above. A couple of years ago with my old Saxo track car the engine expired and rather than rebuilt it, i decided it was cheaper & easier to source another like for like 16v engine albeit with slightly less mileage.I mentioned it to the insurers at the time who said it was of no interest and they would only want to know if it was a different capacity / power engine, had different modifications, etc.
I updated the DVLA with the new (replacement) engine number and 2 weeks later back came an updated V5
