Been widowed 17-and-a-bit-months now - I was first widowed in Feb 2003 (Helen's passing was the second time frown ). I am pretty jaded generally, but threads like this mix my metaphors wink ...
Your post was in no way self-indulgent or pitying, but crikey chum, you've had some difficult times.

quite humbling infact and I am sure that was not his intention.
~It is surprising as humans what we can actually do when needed. Looking after a loved one is not a chore it maybe terribly hard and distressing but you find reserves you may have thought you did not have

Assisted suicide would be her preference, and that is what this thread was supposed to be about, the other thread was about the actual options that are available which ( when the time comes) is for me to become a full time carer or for her to into care, against her wishes...

It is a lose lose situation, she loses her house and her independence, and my siblings and I lose the inheritance she would like to pass down to us, and we would like her to pass down to us, obviously..
I have recently seen a relative die a particularly nasty cancer related death. It has made me reconsider my views on assisted deaths. At the same time I know some particularly nasty money oriented who would get rid of their parents quite happily to get their paws on the family silver.

The solution is simple. I'd give my inheritance in a flash (and it's a reasonably big one) to ensure the longest and best quality of life for my elderly parents. If I felt they were suffering and the best thing for them was a trip to the same vets I took my dogs with the heaviest of hearts I would. It wouldn't be unreasonable though that to prove I'm doing it for my folks and not for my own financial gain I should be forced into an agreement where a charity gets the cash. Problem solved and best interests of the elderly parents are served.

That made me cry. It's the whole lungs full of fluid and fighting for every breath at the end that is imprinted on me. I'd give up everything I have at that point for a quadruple does of morphine to make it stop.
it usually is the Morphine that does the job in the end. I don't think we are talking about a life that is almost over though are we. If you want to end it all peacefully get yourself a nice single malt drive up to your nearest mountain get down to your underpants and drink the whisky to keep out the cold .

Not sure where this is going hehe - but the OP needs to get a serious grip, in conjuction with stepping outside to have a serious word with him/herself?

silly
hard to cope with I am sure. My sympathies. - im sure it would drive even the strongest a bit nuts
