Pyramid schemes

Whether legal or illegal is irrelevant (ish).
The whole point of a pyramid scheme is that they are unsustainable business models.
Ask your mate to PM me and I will happily build a spreadsheet showing that by this time next year the entire 7bn people on the planet need to have signed up for him to make £2.50 a week.
Don't worry ive just blocked his posts on FB and told him not to message or call me about it as id rather save my money than give it to him etc The whole point of a pyramid scheme is that they are unsustainable business models.

He is totally brain washed by it and keeps coming out with quotes from his boss. I asked him why he is doing it and he told me '' he truly believes in the company and you get a better return than savings in a ISA and when you don't have to declare anything its a win win'' At that point I put the phone down on him

Sounds like he is beyond hope... hope he doesn't invest too much... ouch.He is totally brain washed by it and keeps coming out with quotes from his boss. This is exactly the thing that I mentioned before.
People get hooked, and sign up. They then realise that to get the lifestyle that they were promised they have to get deeper in, or they lose their investment of time and money.
That 'getting deeper' is simply passing on the curse to five more people that you used to call friends.

Sadly so, friends ex was convinced by her very own lovely mother.People get hooked, and sign up. They then realise that to get the lifestyle that they were promised they have to get deeper in, or they lose their investment of time and money.

Over 20 years ago I was advised to join a men only "investment" group called men and motors, by a few women (one of which was my demented ex) who had "invested" in a women's only one called hearts and minds. I pretty much laughed at the idea and told them they were about to get shafted. They thought I was the stupid one until a few weeks later when they were all crying and scrambling trying to recover their money. I didn't know what a pyramid scheme was back then but was able to do simple maths and the whole thing just sounded ridiculous.

…What you find is that the employee uses Facebook to effectively advertise their lifestyle, paid for company car, and relink photos of the free holidays given to the top people in the pyramid.
Oh, and sell aloe vera body wrapping stuff, but that's secondary.
The scams that I have seen on social media are trying to entice people with the promise of a lifestyle. They’re saying “join us today and you too can have a holiday apartment in the Caribbean with a Lamborghini outside by the end of the month, it’s that easy” Oh, and sell aloe vera body wrapping stuff, but that's secondary.
An example of this is, I keep on getting adverts popping up on YouTube from an annoying guy called Greg Secker. Where he’s filming himself inside his “trading den”. By paying for his online trading courses you too can be a gazillionaire in just a few days.
What I’ve never understood is, if he’s so successful at trading, then why does he need to make more money from his annoying YouTube ads?
The best quote I’ve heard about this was, “The only people who really profited from the 1849* California Gold Rush, was the shops selling shovels”.
. *interestingly this is where the “Forty Niners” American football team, got their name from.
