It's perfectly possible to be ill from work enough times to trigger HR investigations. I've recently had 3 periods of sickness in a 12-month rolling period and this is enough to start our HR team getting involved.

According to some on here that should be enough to make me get managed out rofl
Unfortunately it's a sad reflection of what PH has become.

Thanks majordad.

It would seem you're one of a few on here who seem to be on my side.

Most of the others seem to think I'm some sort of militant leftie out to bring my employer to it's knees.

It couldn't be farther from the truth.
I don't come here much any more, partly due to the aggro you've been the target of, but thought I'd better pop in and say I think you're being perfectly reasonable.
Forget the haters hippy
Thanks scarble.

See my post above.

We do the same from time to time where I work. It'd dependent on the role and the illness, but on all occasions it's a check on whether the person is fit to resume their role. Nothing to do with whether they were taking the proverbial, more to ensure we are taking appropriate measures and proper duty of care regarding the employee. I've been on one, it was all fine.

I've had my occupational health assessment.

All went well. The doctor understood it was perfectly acceptable to be off sick with what I was suffering from (gallstones) and it would of been unwise to do my job whilst taking the pain killers I was prescribed. He said he will also report that my symptoms are likely to return in the future and an operation and recovery time may be needed. He said I was fit to do my job and this will also be reported back to my employer.

Now I have to wait to be called to a meeting with my ops manager once the report has been received.

And for what it matters I drove my own car to the appointment as I was fairly sure I was insured in the circumstances.

Sounds like a worthwhile investment in time.
Hopefully the company will think so.

I quite enjoyed the experience as the doctor was quite a character.

It's also good to know that a health professional (who my company hired) is on my side.

Despite the piss taking, glad you had a good result !
A good result will depend on what the company does next but I'm confident of a positive outcome and thank you.

It's time to finally put this to bed.

A few weeks ago I was invited to attend a phase 4 sickness meeting with my ops manager and 2 HR managers. The meeting was very short and it was decided as I had never had a phase 3 meeting that this would be arranged for a later date.

That meeting happened yesterday and I was allowed to explain fully my symptoms and how they and the medication I was prescribed prevented me from working. It was agreed that I was right to be away from work and I would remain on a phase 3 until December and then I would return to a phase zero. It was also noted that my duty manager had offered me no help or relief at any time during my 3 sickness occasions and he will be bought to task over it. Procedures he should of ensured happened never did.

An action plan has also been drawn up by the company to help me prevent my symptoms from returning which include given a proper break to eat or just get away from the job for 30 minutes. If I haven't mentioned it on here before I carry a 2 way radio at all times during a 12 hour shift so I'll now have chance to give it to someone else for a short time.

Overall it was a positive outcome. They never had any intention of dismissing me at any time and now I'm getting help when I need it.
