Well L&G got back to me today, they have removed my address from their system and provided me with a little extra information.

A letter will be sent off tomorrow which should sort some of the issues out.

Hopefully I'll see the end of this in a few months.

Don't ignore them and just returning to sender I ended up with bailiffs turning up for the people I bought my house from they'd gone back to Canada owing a small fortune.
Wasn't a happy time as I was away the Mrs had to face them and she is as quiet as a mouse took quite a bit to sort out.
They knew what they were doing when they left and they left the house in a st mess that's a different story bds I hate them.
Can't imagine how bad that must have been.

I found 'return to sender' fairly ineffective after a year in my house. Talktalk only stopped after several calls to the complaints department.
The dvla weren't any better, on the phone they just tell you to return letters with 'rts' but that's not going to work if they never receive them.
Perhaps not all branches hold the same ethos as Egor110.

The dvla have now stopped sending letters for the previous owners son but not before some court documents, a couple of evening suprise police visits, three calls to 101 and someone from capita or G4S.
Don't know for sure that it was all connected but it did happen around at the same time the stop altogether.

Why wouldn't they receive them?

You'd loose your job for just binning the rts letters .

For posties people moving out and not sorting out a redirection is common thing it's not a big issue.

The guy who lived in my place previously obviously hasn't registered his car to his new address. He's been getting parking tickets through from various councils. When he doesn't pay the fees (because he hasn't got the letter) it gets escalated to court dates, then summons, then bailiff threats.

We were told he set up a redirect and had this confirmed with Royal Mail but we've had stuff from HMRC, Croydon council, Epsom council, various debt collection agencies, British Gas, the water board - pretty much everyone is chasing for this guy. We've been doing the RTS routine for about 4 months and even spoken to the post lady about it but she just said she HAS to deliver the letters. I'm afraid of getting visits from men looking for this guy when I'm not home and it's just my wife here.

I know that he worked for a local pub, so it doesn't help that some of the letters start with the pub name, then his name.

It sounds like his redirection has expired then or your postie is st and just not doing it.

Normally when a person sets up a redirection a letter goes to the old address saying a redirection has been set up for x months.

We got the redirection letter. It didn't have the forward address on it so we've been putting the letters back in the postbox. After 3 months I got suspicious of them and started opening them as the red letters on the front got bigger. Called a few places and explained but didn't want to hear it as there was no proof I wasn't him just saying it to stop them sending letters.

Fair point, I have no way of knowing if the letters were intentionally or accidentally misplaced by employees of the royal mail, talktalk, the dvla, the courts service or it was policy to ignore them.

The previous owners of our place still had a car registered at the address. I had a bailiff visit early on a Saturday morning and explained the situation. He had already checked the cars on the drive and names didn't match. He suggested I wrote to the DVLA stating that the previous owner no longer lives here and the car has no relation to the address. I did this and got a letter back stating that the address had been removed from file for that car. Not sure what they did, maybe put a marker on it? so the Police ANPR flags to stop it?

Also a couple of days ago, got a county court letter for the previous owner and called them up to say that they moved out Sept 2014..told ok, but I have my passport, council tax bill and bank statement by the door incase anyone visits.

Seems the previous owners went over to Spain and didn't bother paying any bills. On another note, don't the debt collection agencies do any checks? A couple wanted me to provide proof of who I was.

Do you need to have the registration mark to be able to write to them? We've had a whole bunch of car related for post and I'm just waiting for the day bailiffs turn up looking for him.

I had a letter with the reg but I think I threw it away.

After years of similar as OP I started tearing the letters in half, (so the receiving company can still read the name and address) and posting them back to the companies in a new unstamped envelope. I do this in the hope that eventually they will want to take action as royal mail charge them: "Where no postage has been paid, the fee will be £2."

haha fk them
