For all the moans and groans, a competent driver should be able to stick to 20 where it is 20, and yes I agree some roads do seem to be 20 for no apparent reason no question at all.

In Aberdeen coming into the Duthie park area, it drops from 40 to 30, more often than not, when I am driving along at 30, a queu quickly builds up behind me.

Don't get me started on 20 zones in Brighton.

You have a cycle lane, bus lane and then car lane, 20 zone, if everyone is going 20 and they want to turn left you get an accident.

Doesn't even make sense, driving at 20mph is worse in terms of pollution and traffic flow then 30mph so why has the Green party enforced this limit?

Interesting...... we have bus lanes in Aberdeen, and every junction bar a few "No Entry" signs let you turn left, dont get any accidents. Think you exagerating a bit, or there are a lot of crap drivers in Brighton. biggrin

Just interested.

Assuming the driver is proceeding in the direction the Streetview link on page 1, then they would have just come past a road with a school up it.
20mph on a road where school kids could be running around is more than enough reason for the limit if people could be using it as a rat run and doing 40mph along there imo.

They're bringing 20 limits to Edinburgh soon. Ive just resigned myself to the fact that if they enforce it, ill be picking up some tickets - im not doing 20 where its far too slow.

Yes, was a busy schoolday that Sunday afternoon...

TBH, for all the self righteous 20mph advocates, I can't remember ever following one in these 20mph limits!

20mph zones are a joke, what really fks me off is they're usually used in conjunction with speed bumps, lots of bollards, the stupid kerbs that stick out that push you onto the other side of the road. Basically everything to distract you.
Are you actually serious? If these are distractions for you perhaps some kind of a course (of driving lessons...) would be useful for you. Driving requires concentration and application, FGS. It's not difficult if you apply those.

It depends on what you're concentrating on - concentrating on unimportant details might cause you to miss important ones - see: http://www.theinvisiblegorilla.com/gorilla_experim...

Mavtec does make a good point. The UK lead the world once in road signage and traffic management but has somehow lost its way.

20mph zones were originally brought in as at 20mph, there is much less chance of killing someone. Bollards and humps to force traffic to slow down.

Combining these is simply poor traffic management and creates hazards which increases driver stress.

Think how many times you've seen drivers clear these artificial hazards and then accelerate to beyond a "normal" speed limit.

Latest update: I have been offered a course called the NSAC 20. For a bargain price I can spend just over 2 1/4 hours listening to an expert telling me how not to go so fast.

I've already got the point as the cost will be approx £90... Not quite sure how you can drag a sermon out for so long without sounding silly, but I'm sure it will be incredibly interesting and illuminating and I'll return home a changed man, eager to get my wicked Porsche on ebay and swap it out for a golf buggy for those 20mph zones.

You mock but you're the one being done for 27 in a 20 and above state you've never actually followed a 20 limit.

Who's the idiot?

I was under the impression that these were 'self-policing' and the real police don't target them, or at least, that used to be the case.

20 limits are an absolute joke, pointless and just there to cause issues. None of my cars will stick at 20 unless manually held in gear with your foot on the brake.
Hmmmm so you are saying in first and tick over, it will be doing over 20, what do you drive?

Just interested.

Don't worry Jim, I never ever bother trying to go 20, and rarely go into any urban area as I enjoy driving, I've no experiences of needing to beat the system in 20 zones.

Less of the muppet bs though, you have no knowledge of me at all, unless you are daft enough to side with some of the weird haters on this site who don't like people with lives

I'm fortunate enough not to live near any big cities and rarely venture into them (thankfully), there are a couple of 20s, but they're outside a school so I don't mind - plenty of decent driving roads here in Yorkshire to enjoy...

I may not know you personally, but you're online persona reads like a fantasist has written it, seeking attention and approval. You've been questioned on a few things and refused to back up your seemingly over inflated claims...
