The complainent in the car park should've just reported the OP for being a massive bellend. At least there would have been a result after the pathetic waste of police time.

The pictures are remarkable for their dullness.
I didn't delve too far, lest I stumbled on: "Deltic 55022 pulling out of Cleethorpes Station" nerd
Sorry but the very fact that you not only know what a Deltic is but recount the exact number of one that is preserved marks you out as a trainspotter. hehe

Impressive engines aren't they!

I suggested he was a bell end a few pages ago but got no reply.

The same as there has still been no reply over how you get into trouble with the police for taking pictures of a christmas tree and a pile of logs.

Well I for one (and probably the only one) want to sincerely thank the OP. I've been searching for many years for a picture of a diesel A3 in black with Audi 5 spoke alloys, parked on yellow hatched Tarmac and set against a backdrop of galvanised steel supermarket railings alongside a VW Polo. Despite endless internet searches, visits to libraries adross the country and constant letter writing my tireless efforts have been in vain until now. For me, such a picture would capture the juxtaposition of the urban landscape with the mundanities of everyday life in the UK, the social tensions endemic in our society and the undercurrent of capitalist values in a changing world. Your picture encapsulates the very essence of these societal components in a truly magnificent tapestry of 21st century Britain. My search is therefore over. Thank you.

PS do you do weddings too, as my mate's getting hitched next month?

There are times when starting to read a thread on page one, then skipping to the last pages saves you hours and the frustration of getting to the end and thinking 'WTF?'

Jesus wept no, he'd be the WORST wedding photographer ever.

'Can I see the pictures you took of my new wife?'
'No, I may or may not have taken any...'

Not to mention he'd say he took pictures of the ceremony, and then you'd discover he'd taken a picture of a seat or somesuch!

PC has just phoned me and we've talked about the incident.

It was mentioned by somebody earlier that it could have been a case of the bloke thinking 'why are you looking at my wife'

This was exactly what the complaint to the police was.

This is the photo that I took. The complainants VW can just be seen.

roflroflroflroflroflroflroflroflroflrofl

The photograph is cropped. The EXIF data shows it was taken with a focal length of 20 mm with your 100D that has a 1.6x crop, so effectively 32 mm (i.e. wide angle). The image is 2039 x 1035 pixels. Compared to the maximum the 100D is capable of this represents this much of the full frame:

Love it when you have access to someone who knows what they're talking about and can't be BS'd roflroflroflroflroflroflroflroflrofl

I'm not climbing on the 'knock the OP' bandwagon, but why the hell did the OP not just come clean about the nature of the picture. To us, at least, if not to the complainant.

"Well chaps. I was taking a picture of (yet another) badly parked Audi, for submission to the 'Bad Parking Thread'. Due to the limitations of my zoom lens, some additional detail in the surrounding area was included in this image, which I later intended to crop out."

Sad that the complainant took it to the police though. Fine if it's a paparazzi style long lens on 'rapid fire' focused on the wife, but seriously? A police complaint? What a chod-gobbler.

I've taken dozens of pictures on my 'happy snaps' digital camera, and put them on PH. Mostly cars, some "because cool" and others "because crap plate or bad parking". I've had one person question what I was doing, and I told them straight - "I'm taking a picture of that terribly parked car, to put it on the internet where it can be mocked mercilessly". The response? "oh. You're right, that is shocking parking".

So yes, I think it was slightly silly for the OP to insist on invoking his "You do not have to say anything..." right, but on the other hand, I'd say the complainant ought to be at least warned about wasting police time, and be told to grow up and get on with his life. He sounds like one of those 'did you spill my wife/stop looking at my pint' nutters that the world would be better off without.

All this "I may or may not have..." cloak and dagger nonsense is what kept the thread alive this long, though. And for managing to maintain the thread for so long with so little substance? OP, I salute you...

wink

The zoom lens on the camera had a maximum effective focal length of over 400 mm!

ETA: To give you an idea of the level of crop using the image below as a guide, the photograph was taken with the zoom lens set at 20 mm, and the longest focal length achievable of the lens used was 270 mm.

Thing is the OP DID have a zoom lense - & this is probably what caused the initial concern.
