Apologies if you felt aggreived.

The problem is, when somebody takes a position that someone else can drive a coach and horses through, and then comes back to defend that position even after a coach and horses has been driven through the hole in their argument... well, there comes a point ... wink

But in any case, us old buggers should be sticking together. Some of the young 'uns around here think we're not safe to be on the road smile
It was more a case of being at cross-purposes, but anyway ...

Oh dear god, the only reason you could possibly be forgiven for being The Wrongest Person On the Internet was when I thought you were 13.

You honestly can't be an actual grown up and think the things you do, surely?

Cant believe people still going on about this!

has ANYONE heard of someone got a ticket (not a mate of a mate) for doing 60 ish in an average zone? Because doing it day in and day out and never hear a thing.
I got done for 53 in a 40 Average zone just North of the Forth Road Bridge last year. 6 in the morning, no coffee, no sleep and the 'Cameras Under Test' signs had been removed for the first time... Before then and since I set the cruise, if the hire car has one, to 46 and sit back.

For the sake of argumentsake and defending some of the people being targeted here, you can kind of beat some average camera set ups. For instance some entrances to the A9 you can go a full 5 miles or so without actually being in a measured zone. My friends father was a part of some subcontractors for one of the companies building a lot of the camera systems (vyzsonics I think), and he swears by numerous methods of ducking the cameras by joining the road at a ton and only slowing down at certain points. Ive watched him doing it on the a9 dual section and supposedly he has yet to recieve a ticket (when I was in the car with him he averaged 83mph on his GPS trip).
It's not a trick, the dual carriageways North of Perth are not covered by the Ave Cams, so you can do any speed you like there. Of course this is where the mobile cameras will be...infrequently.

By adjusting my attitude & not being irritated (I realise you're not) it's very satisfying just bimbling along at the posted speed knowing that in most cases those who do speed are very likely to find a prosecution notice coming through their letter box soon.
The joke is that come Ringwood or the next section of congested road to Salisbury or Southampton the overtakes will be stuck in the same queue as me only a few cars lengths ahead of me. Better still I have no worries about fines & points.

Not as incredible as anyone thinking avoiding deaths is the only reason for speed limits.....

That aside, i would certainly think it's a lot of drivers misunderstandings of how ASC work.

And as the above poster says, its really not difficult to stick the cruise on at around 40 and bimble along.

When there are no hold ups, and also, once in the contraflow, it all flows reasonably smoothly anyway.

Its unlikely they will catch too many more here at the moment. Those figures relate more to when the carriage way had both lanes open both sides, but they kept the 40 average speed limit in place 'due to incomplete safety barriers'.

Beats me why anybody would celebrate that A338 being a 40 limit.
That is just forcing people to go slow for the sake of it, and then punishing those who don't.

Average speed cameras give us all an idea of the nightmare that the State may subject us to one day, that being GPS boxes in all vehicles.
But just think of all the marketing opportunities those GPS boxes would open up when the State sell off the data to all and sundry when they fancy a bit of easy money.

I expect I could if I could be bothered, but before/if I do, I need to know first whether your issue is that you don't know any other reasons (other than preventing deaths as per your earlier point) or whether it's what the government is or isn't telling you that's the problem.

It's fine saying just whack the cruise on but a lot of us car buffs don't drive new stuff. Keeping to 40 in an average speed zone can be quite tiring in a v8 especially when it's hilly.

I am anywhere between 30-50 mph so thankfully no tickets but it does mean I am constantly looking at the damn speedo while trying not to drive through the cruising shopping trolley in front and not be rammed by the person behind on cruise.

Crusing shopping trolleys are a pain in the Arse!

So you have the same problem in any given speed section, keeping to 60 or 70?

BTW I love cc, wouldn't be without it. But each to their own.

What a strange thread.

If you can't stick to 40mph (either through lack of will or driving talent) for a few miles, I'd rather not share a road with you!

Nope when its a 70 or 60 the cruise control people set theirs to all different amounts so its nice an easy no constant speed convoy, not like a single carriage 40 section at all.
