What a strange thread.

If you can't stick to 40mph (either through lack of will or driving talent) for a few miles, I'd rather not share a road with you!
Have I read this before somewhere? What a strange post!

Perhaps its a Volvo thing!? Mind you the last poster that said this was driving a cheap Merc.

You need to read and understand what people have written, and then decide if you want to post silly statements.

Once again, it would be a real shame if everyone's plates fell off while travelling through these zones.

It could sit on the seat next to you, waiting to be produced if you're ever asked to explain it.

If it saves just ONE driving licence, its worth it.

I read this and thought how strange. I don't think that keeping to 40mph is at all tiring. Maybe it's some facet of the V8 engine. Does it spontaneously accelerate and decelerate?

Keeping to 40 in an average speed zone can be quite tiring in a v8 especially when it's hilly.

Bert, are you taking the Mick? I draw your attention to the word "Hilly!".

Cars without cruise, going down hill tend to accelerate! I am sure you know that. You have to use the brake and then up the hill you need to use the accelerator.

No biggy but you are constantly making small corrections while them that can just whack on cruise look at the scenery and not realise how close they are to the car in front.

You too could have cruise control if you find these zones to be a problem, just Google your model of car and 'aftermarket cruise control'.

Heaven forbid! Having to use the brake and the accelerator to drive a car? Whatever next.

Have I been redirected to Mumsnet when I logged in to PH?

Alas, I am not sure there is much demand for aftermarket cruise control for a Rover P5B. I expect I will continue to play frogger with the cruise control junkies!

( Must also let C70R know when I am out and about in it so he can stay in so that he won`t crash into me or vice versa )

I know funny is it. However, the best advice to come out of this thread is to use cruise control when in average speed zones. Not all cars have cruise control, some people have to actually use their feet and heaven forbid, pay attention!

My reading comprehension is pretty good, to be honest.

I (as the owner of a V8) was struggling to comprehend exactly what makes it so especially difficult to drive at 40mph. I seldom need to bother with cruise to sit at 40 - does that make me a driving god?

Obviously it does as I find keeping up with a guy on cruise difficult when going up and down hills and the guy on cruise behind wants to drive through me. The bit I am referring to is pretty hilly. The car used to go down the hill at 70 with the foot off before the road works started.

You must just be better than me.

I take my hat off to you and warn you that I drive the A30 in the car most weekends so you can avoid me and my inferior skill set.

I must also add that I intend to buy a more modern car with a 4 speed box and better brakes in the form of a 6.75l v8 turbo while petrol is still cheap. Yes I know it's starting to go up again. I might not be up to your skill with your v8 but if you would like to come to Cornwall and teach me then that would be great! However, you are fully entitled to not to as you would then be sharing a road with me which might not be what you want due to your earlier post.

I should have it by July. It might be a bit of a nightmare for us going through the road works then but I am always willing to learn from those better than me. If you are able to teach.

We could also have Bert and Robin down as well. I know a few good venues and we could listen to Bert and Robin and decide which is better, those that can use cruise control or those that can use their feet.

It would be an interesting chat. We could have a PH get together.

Bert, Robin, and C70R fancy a trip to Cornwall this summer? It's a lovely place.

Never, ever without it. Just don''t seem able to maximise progress with the mental arithmatic exercises whilst enduring late night schleps up the A14 ;-)

So, what is the v8 vehicle that you are having trouble with?
