What bugs me is we pay the same Council Tax as people who 'own' dogs. It costs money for those bins to be emptied and for someone to clear up, so why not make a licence available through the council? At say £50.00 a year?

Less dogs, less sh*t.

The bins obviously are too much effort for many people, so just make people pay or they can't have a dog.

Bit like owning a car and a television really.
Ok, I'll pay extra for two dogs IF I don't have to pay for schools because I don't have kids.
Maybe we should just stop people owning dogs instead of worrying about how the Council Tax is divided etc? That would be easier.

Why do people own dogs anyway?

It's a regular problem where I live, we've two patches of 'korma' on the pavement outside at the moment. Three neighbours and ourselves complained to the council who sent sent out officers to carry out a surveillance exercise and nab those responsible. I don't know if anyone was caught red handed (or empty handed) but it stopped for a while but it's now worse than ever.
Did you know dogs can read? They must be able to as some 'pick up your poop' symbols were stencilled on the pavement - water soluble so they've all vanished now.
I feel another call to the council is needed - or a visit to a gun shop...

For some of them because it gives them some companionship when their kids have buggered off and never visit them.

wink

In this hate for dog owners thread, would it be permissible to point out that there are some dog walkers who pick up and bag poo, including use of kitchen towel to clear up any last traces and then take it away and dispose of it in the proper places. Just saying. angel

And we hate the irresponsible feckless just as much, probably even more, than the rest of you.

Whilst out walking in the park earlier, one of ours did a plop right next to the leavings of a pooch owned by a cretin.

I've got bread hooks like shovels but it was a real challenge to get it all in the one bag.

I hate the lazy fkers with a passion.

That said, the only thing to have crapped on the pavement outside our gates was a dirty bd of the biped variety.

Living on a farm, we're of the 'stick and flick' mentality at home, but obviously bag elsewhere. We don't bag sheep st, or deer st, or fox st, and hang it on fence posts or in trees, or worse, chuck it in culverts or off public rights of way or pile it up behind trees in the woods, or fly tip it in gateways in the lanes, because (heck, get this!) the council poo collectors do not walk the countryside on foot collecting up bagged st.

I agree. The reason why there used to be white dog st years ago was precisely because of this fact.

White dog st is what you get if you feed your dog a significant quantity of bone.

From what I have read it is diet as well as the dog poo being left to dry out.

http://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/index.php?...

The disappearence of white dog poo is down to what dogs eat these days.

White **** is the calcium left behind as the water evaporates, and the 'organic' components of the crap are consumed (in various ways) leaving the inorganic stuff behind.

Historically, before BSE came along, butchers used to dish out bones for dogs to munch on.

But nowadays dogs don't eat as much bone as they used to, including bone meal. This all got the lid shoved on it due to the BSE crisis. Also, tighter regulation on dogs crapping on pavements means that turds don't hang around for years in public places like they used to, giving them less opportunity to dry out and turn white.

That also, but after eating a lot of bone they can be pretty close to white and crumbly at the point of production!

I don't think this is a 'hate for dog owners' thread, but how would you feel if I took a sh*t outside your house every day, leaving you to clear it up or walk in it?

Just a thought, but the dog 'community' could do themselves a big favour and clear up other people's dog sh*t?

Then people who choose not to have a dog might look at things more positively...

Maybe a dog owner on here could tell us why we have to be tolerant of dog sh*t on the path, footpath, roads, kerbs etc etc?
I understand it is always someone else who causes the mess, it always is...

If I had a 'pet' elephant and walked it around the town I live in, would it be reasonable for me to expect non-owners of elephants to be sympathetic to my choice of 'pet'?
At least when I get it home it wouldn't stand in the garden barking either.

I don't hate dogs, but I hate hearing them bark. I hate clearing the sh*t up that they produce that is left on the pavement etc.
I just hate people who make a choice about how they want to lead their lives, but expect everyone else to clear up after them.

I hope this clears up (no pun intended) the problem that I have with dog owners, and yes I do view you all suspiciously!
If you don't like it, then either clear up any other dog sh*t you see when out responsibly (of course) walking YOUR dog, or put up with it, a bit like I have to every day.

Soon be Christmas.

Elephants don't have a meaty diet - ergo the turds are less of an issue, which is why the horsey set don't need to bother cleaning up after their horses.

Poor?

Stupid and selfish people maybe but plenty of people would be considered by the PH massive as poor but still more than able to raise children and/or look after a dog.

Maybe we could get one of your mates to clean up after you post.
