golf edition 30
Discussion
My daily car is a very well cared for ed30. Its done 80k now and is going into Awesome Gti next week for its second cambelt/ water pump change, DSG service and oil and to have new steering arms and track rod ends.
It's feeling a little splashy in the corners and at that age and miles I'm guessing its due a suspension refresh.
I'm 42 and thus don't want to lower it, stiffen it or make into a road racer - just restore it's agility as it's just a daily beater.
So, what typically would you guys recommend I replace - the shocks are not leaking so I assume that they are still good?
What bushes tend to wear?
Thanks in advance

Sorry, didn't realise it was angry fanbois only in here. And no, I just click "whats new" and comment on things I find interesting, boring or anything else I fancy thanks.
Yeah, we've heard that excuse before. You're just coming across like a proper dick, and I'm sure you'd think the same of me if I thought it necessary to mention baseball caps and Bonkers compilations on every Subaru thread that came up.Just stop being a wker.
If you're going to do a refresh, you may as well go the whole hog as you'll like just be chasing the problem otherwise.
A couple of tricks you might be able to pull to give a more direct feel is to replace the strut top mount bushes and the front lower arm rear bushes with Audi TT 3.2 versions. These are slightly higher shore and solid respectively. If like my R32 you have 'voided' front lower arm rear bushes, you'll notice a difference without any detriment.
As for what wears out first, probably the strut top mounts and ARB drop link bushes, plus the front lower arm rear bushes if they're voided. I'd expect noise to be present if these are past though. If you're going for a targetted strategy, it's probably worth changing these first.
And just because the dampers aren't leaking, doesn't mean they're not tired.
Without driving the car though, it's difficult to know what to recommend as it may be something very minor.
How old are your tyres out of interest? And what brand are they?

The car for something less numb.Looking at your 'garage' you have hardly owned any fine cars have you? The RB5 is about the only one that's decent - assuming its not rusty.

Mine's on 97K and feeling the same. I'm pretty sure it's down to the F1s on the front being down to 2mm
You will probably find the tie rods and arms will solve most of the washyness. No point throwing parts at it that aren't required, although having said that, if you were rebuild the chassis with all new OEM bushes, mountings, springs and dampers, it makes a profound difference. Need deep pockets for that though.

Personal insults? Really? How juvenile its only a car, (a boring one) no need to take it so personally.
It may be a boring car to you so therefore why do you keep commenting on cars that do not interest you. Let's just remind you that this is a VAG sub forum. We could all say a Volvo and a RB5 PPP are boring, which for me they are pretty boring cars but I wouldn't comment on the Volvo or Subaru sub forum saying that. I owned a P1 for a while and heavily modified it as it was a piece of cr@p out of the box.Why troll sub forums and comment if you have nothing constructive to say.

And you would be entitled to your wrong opinion just like I am even if you disagree with it. I wouldn't start hurling childish insults.
You really are a moron. Your attitude stinks. How sad your life must be to feel compelled to comment on every single thread that has even mere mention of a VW product. You're an irritant, the sort of person that brings forums down.lord trumpton said:

Are they SACHs equivalents or the actual genuine SACHs? I know they'll probably state they're for a Golf GTI, but the quality (i.e life span) won't be the same.
Oh and I would recommend 8P Audi S3 console bushes. The original voided ones are rubbish.

Ahh that old chesnut, I wouldn't normally get involved with someone so special, but I've seen this response posted by you so many times, I can't resist. Did you accidently not realise that Edition 30 might be VW or Golf related... Do us all a favour, stop wasting everyones time with your repetitive b0llocks. Complete bellendery at its finest. OP, better of just a general re-bush, but certainly anti-roll bar drop links. Bump stops often split too on these.
rb5er, your claims that it's just you clicking "what's new" don't really ring true, your posting history is pretty telling. It looks to me like you enjoy actively seek out threads about VW Group products wherever they may be to a facetious, flippant arse in. It's a crap excuse and you should stop using it.
As for upgrades for a well-cared for Mk5 platform car in the suspension department, I'm a big fan of Koni FSD shocks as a replacement for the OEM ones. They're very pliant on the road but also firm things up nicely. I'd never want them for track work or anything like that, but personally I think they're really good as road shocks and they work well with OEM springs.
The rest is the usual- bushes (I'd probably just go OEM for a road-driver because most of the uprated ones do increase NVH a fair bit) and I'd probably consider getting one of the anti-lift kits fitted as they do make quite a difference.
