LED Headlight bulbs
Discussion
I've seen a couple of threads on the Tiger Explorer forums about LED bulb upgrades and I must admit I'm tempted. However, as with any "specialist" forum there does seem to be an additional level of geek on there.
Has anyone upgraded the standard bulbs for LED ones? If so, is it a case of "plug and play" or is it a bit more of a faff? The LED bulbs are more expensive and of course I need two of them... If anyone has changed to LED bulbs, have you any links or revommendations where to buy from?

Assuming they are the right type, much the same as car LED lights. Plug and play.
Some of the bulbs I've seen seem to have a ballast or dolling braiding/fans on the back so space will be an issue potentially inside the housing.I've just had a look and there is some space, but not a huge amount.
The ones Ive seen need a lot of room for the driver/ballast, a bit like HIDs
the other issue is if the reflector headlight isnt designed for them, the beam pattern can be a bit odd, same with HIDs. You really have to try and see for yourself if you are happy with it, or ask on an owners specific forum other people that may have upgraded
its all a bit hit and miss right now with all these new bulbs coming out from the far east....ive tried a few and still have an unfitted HID kit here I bought for another bike, after a mate tried and were not happy with the results, I never bothered. Ive also got an LED one here too thats too big for my headlight enclosure
....I ended up with some Philips vision plus that are a bit better/whiter, but not wildly different...
Id find someone who has successfully upgraded your bike model with a particular model you can buy....

I'm toying with fitting these to the Tiger.

Although there's a small ballast, I'd need to try and see how much room is there.

As i understand the good LED bulbs are better than HIDs as the LEDs are much more directional, and better match the location of the filaments in standard bulbs, however as with all these things, i think there are a lot of not well thought through cheap tat on ebay, and you could well get what you pay for.the other issue is if the reflector headlight isnt designed for them, the beam pattern can be a bit odd, same with HIDs. Another problem is the extra bulk on the back of the lamp with the heatsink and fans, there isnt much space behind most headlights, and with a fan, you suddenly have a bulb with moving parts.
