1/ It doesn't matter what JLR say about their relationship with the dealer. JLR are not involved in any contract between the dealer and the OP.
2/You don't have to write something down to form a binding contract.

But JLR should be informed if the dealer is not dealing with the issue to your satisfaction.

And putting it in writing avoids any confusion later.
