Arrow on lanes implying ahead only.

However, a no left turn sign is displayed, but no sign is explicitly prohibiting right turns. If the lane markings are authoritative, then it begs the question why is the no left turn sign needed?

I see cars turning right here quite often, causing vehicles behind that are going ahead to be backed-up. Are they legally allowed to turn right (or do a u-turn for that matter)?

I think the road signs are not "authoritative" - The no left signs look needed because it a appears a no entry. I would say legal to turn right.

Circular road signs are mandatory/prohibitions.

It is the arrows that are hints, suggesting that straight on traffic may use any line and not an indication they must go straight on.

MHO is right turns are entirely proper.

You can right turn there, I know it well. Unless you're careful to get in the pocket fully though you'll really annoy a lot of people behind laugh

There is nothing to say you can't turn right.

It is a yellow box junction, so follow the rules here:

I know the junction well also. No right turn because that minor road which feeds onto the main carriageway is one way for traffic emerging onto the main carriageway. You can turn right at that junction.

If people turning right at that junction impedes your progress, why don't you just take the middle lane? You can still turn right from the middle lane at the next junction onto Oldham Road or continue straight on.

Unless the arrow on the road is accompanied by the appropriate text the instruction is not legally binding, although common sense should prevail, hoofing straight on into a dodgy merge from a lane with a "turn right" arrow in isn't likely to win you the admiration of the masses for your encyclopaedic knowledge of TSRGD biggrin

That said, I'd happily turn right there, I think the point of the arrows is to tell drivers that all three lanes can be used after the junction

Apologies for Facebook content biggrin

Amusing and slightly worrying discussion going on. Amongst the general mongness it's amazing how many people have no understanding of which road signs must be obeyed/are advisory and what is left, straight on and right at this junction eek The guy who claims to be a driving instructor who's telling people there are no such things as advisory road signs/markings is a bit of a concern rolleyes

Think he means left in the first sentence.
