Unfortunately, it's people like you who ruin it for everyone else.

People like you play into the hands of the system. You fuel the fires started by groups like Brake. Another person in court through totting up means more for the 'safety' partnerships to get their teeth into. They see people like you, think what they are doing isn't enough and press on with further changes.

The fact that you simply do not understand how daft it is to get anywhere near a totting up ban is a worry. You can say all you like about people preaching on here. However, as long as there are people like you around, the system will keep winning and motoring will become more and more restrictive.

Edited to add - it's as if you are proud of this situation. I hope the law enforcers don't see just how much you apparently don't care.

I'll ask her to do you a favour when she's finished. Maybe she can drive your car home from the court?

You're having a laugh!

FYI, the speed camera industry pre-dates the likes of Brake.

And it's those like you, who give tacit approval to that sort of thing, who spoil it for everyone else.

A ban might not be a bad thing, your points tally go back to zero after a 6 month totting ban don't they? If they let you keep your licence it will most likely come with a significant fine & your points stay for the duration. If you got caught again and lets be honest 12 points in under 18 months suggests you will, then you will be in the same position again.

Hindsight isn't very helpful, but I changed my behaviour when I reached 9 points. I've probably done 250,000 miles since without a ticket. It's really not so bad, you get used to it!!!

You're twisting things.

Nobody mentioned anything about 'staring at the speedo, or anything like it.

Getting caught for straying over the limit has little or nothing in common with not paying proper attention to road/traffic conditions and real/potential hazards.

Besides, only getting caught a handful of times despite doing 70K a year is arguably doing quite well in this day and age.

Oh, and in case you ask, my licence is clean.

Then don't post the invisible gorilla video. The whole purpose of that is to show how focussing 100% on one thing can result in you missing other things.

We all speed. Getting caught once, shame on them, twice shame on you, three times double shame on you, four times and you have to start questioning yourself a lot.

I'd certainly agree it is arguable!!

Especially in a short space of time.

Anyhow roofer wasn't asking us to judge him, so we should start another thread for his trial by the moral majority.

Really???

I wonder, if there was a campaign of national obedience, if every motorist across the country got on-board with a campaign to stop speeding completely from a given date, for say six months. Who would suffer most?

I think it could bring the govt down. For a start, fuel consumption figures would go thru the roof, tax revenue from fuel would drop like a stone, and the petrochemical industry and the govt would be in meltdown. And suddenly zero revenue for cameras. That would cause a major headache. Less people in court, loads of civil servants sitting around doing nothing.

Insurance claims would certainly drop and accidents that still happened would reduce in cost, more ncb earned, lower premiums, less IPT for the govt.

If such a campaign could get up and running (which it never will because idiots like you would think they were being beaten and not realise they were actually winning), 6 months of sticking rigidly to the limits would mean a small amount of misery for the motorist, but a catastrophe for the govt.

So maybe think again about who is playing into whose hands when people constantly get caught by cameras.

bks. People like the OP are why the speed camera industry exists. End of story.

Frankly you have to be pretty dumb, or in a permanent fog to get caught under totting up, and a ban is exactly what he deserves.

Nothing to do with the morals of driving above the limit or not, simply a matter of removing from the roads those who clearly have no idea what's happening around them.

To be fair to Twig, it would be interesting to see what would happen if everyone stuck to the limits for 6 months.

Ironically, the only way to actually beat the speed camera partnerships is to remain at or below the speed limits.

I actually think it's a reasonable suggestion, I just don't think it would be as catastrophic as he's predicting. It also wouldn't be bad for petrochemicals, in fact if it cause oil prices to fall further it would be brilliant for the industry. We suffer when oil prices are high because our feedstock price is related to crude oil but our product price is not.
