As per the title.

Would the below wheels be an MOT failure, and if so, for what reason?

Also, what would be the offence, if any, of using them on the road?

Thanks

Crime against taste.

Presumably exposed wheel rim / sharp edges plus front wing torn open like a tin can as soon as any steering lock is applied.

I'd say yes,an offence.

Outside of the wheelarch .

Also an offence to the eyes.

We'll start with sharp edges likely to cause a pedestrian injury, as far as both the MOT and Construction & Use regs are concerned. CU20 on your licence.

Apart from anything else, though, they are absofkinglutely gopping. They redefine hideous. They make a SsangYong Rodius look like a 250 Lusso. They should be banned on that alone.

It's a European car, can't remember what nationality but not British.

Not sure how true but I always heard that a wheel could poke out 30mm from the bodywork as long as tread wasn't showing, which this would fail, along with sharp exposed edges I assume.

They're a ridiculously stupid design, but I'd love to see them on the move. Just a shame it's on air as it would be amazing to see it rolling at that height.

I think they look quite silly, and I am trying to point out to a friend that they are also an offence as well as silly.

Wheels designed to prevent curb damage to your tyres. Genius.

Oh. In that case, no. Encourage him to do it. Take photos. Tell us all what happens... It shouldn't take long to all play out.

I'm presuming that that's part of the wheel & rotates outside the wheel arch - much the same as Boudica's chariot?
That being the case, my opinion would be that there would be an offence of 'Using a motor vehicle in a dangerous condition'under S40A of the Road Traffic Act 1988:
"40A Using vehicle in dangerous condition etc.
A person is guilty of an offence if he uses, or causes or permits another to use, a motor vehicle or trailer on a road when—
(a)the condition of the motor vehicle or trailer, or of its accessories or equipment, or
(b)the purpose for which it is used, or
(c)the number of passengers carried by it, or the manner in which they are carried, or
(d)the weight, position or distribution of its load, or the manner in which it is secured,
is such that the use of the motor vehicle or trailer involves a danger of injury to any person."

No idea what an MOT tester would make of it.

Yes, obviously!

They are dangerous!

Did you really need to ask such question?

It will have air suspension so they dont cut the wings open.

Ruddy European homogenisation. There was a time when this sort of thing was de-rigeur in Britain.

It looks like the front wheels are different from the back in order that the car can actually steer without graunching metal. The OD of of the 'cutters' looks to be far smaller.
