You're worried about points, you were worried about holding up traffic..
Very much so, yes. I'm the guy that accidentally goes past a camera at 71 and spends 2 weeks waiting for a NIP. It's not a fun way to be frown

If it's a delivery truck it clearly isn't owned by the driver. If there was no damage or minimal damage, I doubt the driver will give a toss.

AIUI, you have 24hrs to report a collision, if you couldn't stop at the time, so you're in the clear there. Unlikely to be any careless driving charge.

If the other guy contacts the Police, you can point to your reference number. Then it's just down to dipping your hand in your pocket for the damage or handing it to your insurance.
^^^^This. I'd be very surprised if the Police took any action.

If you were in Hampshire you could have stoved the whole side of his car in and not stopped. Apparently, a 2K repair is 'minor' rolleyes

Jail. I'd expect a five year sentence with 1/3 off for good behaviour, probably in a Class B facility.
Why would you assume this happened in America?

OP, so long as you report to a Police Station within 24 hours of the incident you've not committed an offence.

That's what I'm hoping (and what I think the guy on the end of the 101 line was saying), but "failing to stop" and "failing to report" are two different offences, which is what has me worried.

This is perhaps the most sensible post of the thread.

Delivery driver probably saw it happen, called you a Master Bater, then promptly forgot about the issue.

You are overthinking this, you will be ok, just move on and forget about it.

You're perfectly OK not stopping. There are valid reasons not to. Such as not being able to, or being in fear of your safety if you did. But if you don't stop, you must report and you have 24 hours to do so.

I recently had a big argument with Hampshire Police over a deliberate hit and run, so I researched this. The other driver only became guilty of failure to stop 24 hours after the event when he had failed to report.

Unless there is personal injury though Hampshire Police do nothing, regardless of what ever else the circumstances. They have a matrix that states what they must do, based on certain reported criteria. In all cases it ends in the words "No action" or "Appropriate Police action". Seems they almost always interpret the latter as "No action".

To be fair, if I went past a speed camera at 71 in a 30 I'd probably st my pants also.

I think it's like all those chain letters which promised you'd become rich if you forward them a dozen times.

Shouldn't have bothered though, Op seems a decent enough bloke after all, not the usual flouncy PH type.
I apologise for implying otherwise and feel a bit silly.

The police have got other things to deal with, rightly or wrongly you didn't stop but you obviously have had enough of a conscience to report it so I doubt they will be fussed at all.
