A friend was arrested and is now on bail.

I cant see any time limits on my internet searching so would be grateful for any clarification as to after an arrest is there a time limit before a charge must be bought or for staying on bail?

Surely your friend has been bailed to appear again on a specific date?

Back at police station end of August. Could this be extended?

No charges. But was arrested.

Sadly - the very bottom line is that there is no requirement to press charges within a certain time.
Yes bail dates will be set, but these can, in theory continue indefinitely. Plenty of stories of people, where there is a lot of potential evidence to look through, being on bail for years.

Depends what he is on bail for, summary only offences have a time limit of 6 months from date of offence with very few exceptions.

Otherwise there isn't a time limit although a limit is soon to be brought in via legislation.
