I had an uncle who reckoned he was Scottish, despite being born in Berwick of English parents. After years of showing him maps we just used to say, 'Yes, uncle.' whenever he brought it up. It didn't show that we accepted his realigning of the border, more that we accepted he was a bit daft.
Why would anyone want to claim to be a sweaty?

I think he was a bit more than a bit daft.

Er, the mods telling you to stay on topic?

So do you have anything constructive to add? A year old news article about some good detective work perhaps? An answer to funding for new call handlers maybe?

Please keep it on track

The topic is exhausted. You've put forward a point of view, various people have put forward explanations that you haven't accepted.

Time to drop it altogether, I reckon.

Possibly. I'd be interested to hear how the issue of not being able to answer 101 calls can be addressed though. Some of the police posters on here would perhaps know?

A reduction in budgets has consequences. 999 is more important than 101 thus resources are allocated to it.
Makes sense, but where will the money come from to take on the new extra call handlers?
Where would you expect the money to come from? There's no magic money tree, pay more taxes or the money comes from some area which isn't splashed over the media that week.

What a thankless job the Police do. Never right and only thanked or appreciated if there is a death on duty. I remember the riots and there was a online focus on vids of how Police acted/use of force rather than 'thank you for bringing the nationwide chaos back under control'.

I don't know, that's why I asked. I thought someone on here might know.

Indeed, it never ceases to amaze me that the people who know how policing should be done and who have all the answers to the problems deprive the rest of us from the benefits of their expertise by not actually doing the job.

I wonder if it is just policing where they like to shout from the sidelines or if they also tell plumbers, doctors, accountants, electricians etc. how to do their jobs.

I'd say most professions come under a certain amount of public scrutiny from time to time

You are correct, but scrutiny isn't the same as telling people how to do their job (particularly when those doing the telling are doing so from a position of ignorance).

If a policeman makes you feel silly by, for example, pointing out your chavvy number plate isn't legal, then it can make one feel better by making various assertions/accusations ad nauseam

Whereas Doctors, Plumbers etc don't normally make you feel silly....

I think in the case you refer to, the police officer concerned was made to feel silly.

Plumbers often make me feel very stupid normally after having just been ripped off by the size of their bill. Though in that case it's my cash directly that's paid for the disappointing service.

I'm not really sure what you mean, but nevertheless I wasn't awarded points or a fine as was intended. Although I wonder what might have happened if I'd not questioned his intention to endorse my licence.

The police should always be scrutinised.A chap here in Yorkshire was carted in a cel with two broken legs naked. His arrest was invalid a cock up by the sergeant.

There where no spare tracksuits for him to be clothed.New police station which has cost millions.Maybe that is why no tracksuits.Written warnings where givento the officers for misconduct.

The mind boggles.Lot's are leaving the force no fat pensions and lump sums at fifty could be the answer.

I think we know that the butthurt is strong in the case of one poster ...

amazing how he's advising people to go to an organisation where everyone is incompetent

Please stop sleuthing and trolling. I'm happy to debate on here, but don't go and hijack a thread where a man has just been left by his wife and kids. That's a bit low IMO

He tells that part very differently too!
