13yrs ago so modern ish I guess. The repairman was sick of it & wrote it off without even looking at it on the last visit he made.

I'd suspect you are talking MODERN Hotpoints. Way back in the 80's I got a job with GEC and since we needed a replacement for the twin tub, GEC had a staff discount purchase scheme ,and the latest all singing etc washer dryer was being offered to staff at a serious discount, we bought one. Approx 20 years later after doing the washing for a family of 4,3,2 , it had heart ( or rather programmer ) failure. In the meantime, five years previously, our eldest had bought the MK2 on the strength of how good ours was. SIL worked for a scrap dealer, who saw a large quantity of this model come in. Which was fortunate for them as they needed a regular supply of spares, a husband with a lot of dirty overalls and one young son. We changed to an Indesit( also from the HOTPOINT stable), which eventually developed main bearing grumble ( after 12 years of regular use). Replaced by an LG, which seems to be good value for money.
But for an idea of problems on machines/makes have a look on http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/forumsphpbb3/
Plenty of blokes on there who will give their professional advice. And these blokes are the blokes who 'd come out to repair your machine.

The problem with that is they are giving their opinions based on the number they see but without any ideas about the numbers sold. The breakdown rates could be pretty much the same but how many Miele models are out there compared with, say, Beko ones?

We had a Panasonic which my wife regularly told me was useless, washing coming out dripping wet after a spin, making black marks on clothes etc, after 6 months of moaning I couldn't take any more so we took it back to the electrics superstore who agreed we could give it back and pay the extra for a Miele which was double the price.

Salesman handed us over to the guy behind the till who I started to explain what is was we were doing to but he rudely interrupted saying "I do know, we do this sort of thing all the time" Did the deal and payed the extra on credit card.

A month later when I looked at my credit card statement I could see they had refunded us the extra amount instead of taken for it, feeling guilty I rang up to explain only to be confronted by another rude person who clearly couldn't be bothered to look in to it.

Happy wife, Happy me, the Miele is amazing...... Apparently....

I would guess that the service desk(contact centre stuff) for the manufacturer is outsourced, as the vast majority are. So you will get very little flexibility in response from them. Your best route is contacting someone who actually works for them in a snr position.

Depressing that you have to, but in my experience effective. I'll normally use linkedin to find the most likely 'head of' and go from there

If its an LG I am surprised. Ours is excellent, better than previous Bosch and Miele

Didn't realise anything could be worse than Hotpoint!
My last Hotpoint lasted 8 years without fault - then the concrete block broke. Still, not bad VFM. It's a washing machine, worked just as well as a £1000 one...
When I replaced my washing machine about 4 years ago I went for a Hotpoint too; it's been faultless and is nearly completely silent.

I had a few restrictions as I needed an integrated which narrowed the options a lot. Very impressed with mine tbh.

Well it's a 'far eastern' (ie korean) manufacturer that makes washing machines for more than £1k, and isn't LG. Challenging

From experience. Miele go wrong as well, fault that allows the drum to jump and smash the buggery out of the pcb, which was £450 for a new one at 26 months old.... It got binned.

Samsung will offer you vouchers to replace. Those vouchers can be used to purchase a.......Samsung. Currys tried this with my sister, she eventually got a refund but was without a machine for a few weeks whilst resolved.

My two Bosch machines just go on and on.

Whilst I got if was samsung, if doesn't rhyme with lamb Wong. OP deepest sympathy, that company has a terrible reputation for poor quality.

We had a zanussi before and it just refused to die - despite my best efforts as I hated it screeching at me when the program finished. Anyway the plastics were all horrible and yellowed so when i did the kitchen i thought I may as well change it.

I can't see how we cannot name and shame, we talk about how crap car manufacturers and how BMW screwed xyz over on a warranty all day long, I'm sure we can do the same with lamb wong washing machines.

Ditto - we went for a "super-reliable" Bosch dishwasher and gambled on an LG direct-drive washing machine. Guess which we've had to have repaired under warranty biggrin

I have a direct drive LG, it was in our house when we moved in.
Last year, it shat it's main bearings out. I got a quote to replace them and it was £400! I bought the bearing and new seals for £30 and replaced them myself over the course of three expletive filled evening, I had to strip it almost to component level!
The machine was three years old when it failed and I've heard of them failing even sooner.

That was the advert tag line for Ariston washing machines, not Bosch. What happened to them ?
