My two Bosch machines just go on and on.
That was the advert tag line for Ariston washing machines, not Bosch. What happened to them ?https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=So5UswFSPtc

I have a direct drive LG, it was in our house when we moved in.
Last year, it shat it's main bearings out. I got a quote to replace them and it was £400! I bought the bearing and new seals for £30 and replaced them myself over the course of three expletive filled evening, I had to strip it almost to component level!
The machine was three years old when it failed and I've heard of them failing even sooner.
Guarantee is at least 5 years IIRC, think motor is 10Last year, it shat it's main bearings out. I got a quote to replace them and it was £400! I had a £150 Beko which ran for fifteen years and survived several house moves including some 200-mile jaunts; and spending at least a year stuck in a shed in my parent's back garden when I was working away. It also did two years of washing dirty overalls ...
Not sure we can draw any conclusions from the premium nature or otherwise of brands, nor amounts spent, I suspect it's luck and luck.

I suspect you get luckier with Miele etc though Not sure we can draw any conclusions from the premium nature or otherwise of brands, nor amounts spent, I suspect it's luck and luck.
My Mother has never had a 'premium' brand appliance, many of hers have lasted for many years, didn't stop me replacing our POS Hotpoint with a Miele though.

We had a zanussi before and it just refused to die - despite my best efforts as I hated it screeching at me when the program finished. Anyway the plastics were all horrible and yellowed so when i did the kitchen i thought I may as well change it.
PH don't allow naming and shaming but I can tell you it rhymes with lamb wong !
My mums got a 15 year old samsung washer dryer and it was her auntie who died before thats. Must be 17 years old and going strong.PH don't allow naming and shaming but I can tell you it rhymes with lamb wong !
Bottom line no appliance these days is engineered to last, the market demanded cheap ones so we get appliances desing to last a few years.
What does a £1200 washing machine do that a £300 one doesn't? Does it come with a free macbook air?
Having heard hotpoint bad mouthed my appliance is 3 years old no issues, sold my last one after 3 years as we moved to house with fitted but no issues. My sister ran her last one for 11 years with one repair Indesit tumble dryer £159 I had did 5 years before the bearing shaft let go and then two more years before the belt snapped and got a condensing seems ok. Took 6 months for them to replace it as it was one with the fire fault but swapped it for a brand new hotpoint better one than I had.

Naturally, replaced with another LG. You can even download cycles off the internet for it ?!

I think it's standard practice for the staff in retail establishments to try to fob the customer off to the manufacturer.
For anything costing more than £100 I will give retailers* one chance to resolve the problem. If they resolve the problem, great, if not I don't argue but simply take it up with the credit card company under their joint and several liability. Has always worked so far. - Dixons/Currys being an exception, when I can't even be bothered to waste my breath once, so just go straight to the card company.

I can answer the part about 'what you get with a 1200 quid appliance'. When if works, whisper quiet, low energy consumption. Actually dries the dishes including plastics. Mega fast programmes.many of the cheap ones use huge amounts of power, are long winded on cycle and leave wet dishes. The OP got unlucky
All that and it has a touch screen and a phone app and a cool blue LED light thing. Yes I am a total sucker for tech. (Oh and it has a large drum) The programs are very long and the dryer is very very slow.
So we have an engineer to inspect on Wednesday and then I have to ring the online company that sounds like the teletubbies saying hello and they will ring lambs wong and hopefully we can get something sorted.
Yes to above - it has direct drive. Warranty for 5 years as well.
Thanks for the comments - some of them made me laugh

Don't your dishes get smashed to pieces in the washing machine? vanordinaire said:
Slightly off topic, does anyone know whether the Miele 10 year guarantee machines are the same quality as the 5 year guarantee machines and you are just paying extra for the guarantee, or are they actually better?
The standard manufacturer warranty is 2 years - the 5 or 10 year warranties are just extensions they apply to different models at various intervals (presumably where they've got too much stock!)Our washer-drier came with 5 year, and from memory so has our new dishwasher.
If you're unsure of the product range have a look on miele.co.uk and look at the respective RRPs
