Slightly off topic, does anyone know whether the Miele 10 year guarantee machines are the same quality as the 5 year guarantee machines and you are just paying extra for the guarantee, or are they actually better?
The standard manufacturer warranty is 2 years - the 5 or 10 year warranties are just extensions they apply to different models at various intervals (presumably where they've got too much stock!)

Our washer-drier came with 5 year, and from memory so has our new dishwasher.

If you're unsure of the product range have a look on miele.co.uk and look at the respective RRPs
My Mum just bought one, she had a choice of two machines with different guarantee length and the salesman told her they were identical machines, the extra cost was just to cover the longer guarantee. I was just wondering whether this was bullst or not. Glad to hear it wasn't, she bought the cheaper one on the premise that if Miele were prepared to offer a 10 year guarantee, chances are they expect it'll last at least that long whether she pays for the extra guarantee or not. Personally, I doubt whether it'll matter, she's 80 so the machine will probably outlast her whichever guarantee she pays for.

Depends on the model number and offers at the time of purchase - would be quite possible for one to be on offer with 5 year warranty, but the option to pay extra to extend to 10 years, so could be the same model. Either way it'll be a decent machine and will either go wrong within a few months, or not until after the warranty has expired.

Ours didn't have any sort of failure till 6-7 years old and that was usage/design related - cost a couple of hundred to resolve and been going strong ever since

All that and it has a touch screen and a phone app and a cool blue LED light thing. Yes I am a total sucker for tech. (Oh and it has a large drum)

The programs are very long and the dryer is very very slow.

So we have an engineer to inspect on Wednesday and then I have to ring the online company that sounds like the teletubbies saying hello and they will ring lambs wong and hopefully we can get something sorted.

Yes to above - it has direct drive. Warranty for 5 years as well.

Thanks for the comments - some of them made me laugh
6 in our house including 4 kids aged 2-8 and we have hotpoint 7kg washing machine and 8kg condensing dryer which is not louder than the telly. DO you house 12 foster children for the local council requiring wisper quiet operation and massive drum?
