Hundreds of slow moving vehicles use the motorway at all times of the day across the country.
Maybe that should be looked at during busiest periods as they are way below the natural speed of the motorway and thus cause thousands of additional manoeuvres and delays?
Is it that time of year already? This st gets wheeled out annually, when would you suggest they travelled and what is slow...56mph which is what HGVs are limited to obviously causes thousands of additional manoeuvres for car drivers travelling at 70mph, as others have said you have too be pretty unobservant not to notice a mobile crane.
What a well thought out reply. The suggestion is valid and could easily work. In continental Europe trucks are limited to Lane 1 during peak hours, in some countries they are not permitted during rush hours at all on motorways so why is it a bad suggestion?

I regularly use the A14 and M11 heading south from the A1 to the Stansted junction. Two lanes only (what moron planned that, you ask, but when they opened the M11 it was like the M50......you barely saw another vehicle).

As soon as we hit the busy section of the A14 truckers are magnetically drawn into lane 2, slowing all the traffic to 56 mph or less. It's like that from before 6am until well into the evening.

Don't they know that's the BMW lane, sacred territory to German executive saloons only? confused

When I first read the headline, my initial thought was to think the driver had fallen asleep at the wheel. Particularly if there is no evidence of any attempt to brake.

Or his mind was elsewhere perhaps on his phone? However I understand that the investigating officers always check phone activity at the time of the crash.

Sad story and respect to the family for their stance.

But should a vehicle restricted to 30mph really be travelling on the M4 at peak rush hour (17:50)? Was there no wide/slow load van behind it either etc?
What speed should the accompanying escort vehicles be travelling at...? Slightly faster, or slower... or 30 mph?
A better ploy might be to make due care and attention compulsory for ALL vehicle drivers, and if any passengers were also deployed as look outs...

Coming back from Brands Hatch today up the M11, 3 or 4 times I reckon various women have overtook something, gets up to 70mph but decides it's illegal to go any faster so it becomes this long winded overtake, ffs talk about kin clueless.
Then there's farmer giles who decides to send his poxy tractors out every morning at 20 to 8 in the morning on the main throughfare between Mildenhall and Bury St Edmunds, can't give it 20 minutes when the 8 o clock rush has gone.
Then there's the pushbike time trials on the busy A14/A11 bypass, bad at anytime but especially yesterday as it's half term and the roads were rammed with traffic getting away for a break.
Is it people being awkward or just lacking in common sense? I'm non-political but this sort of thing sprung up when Labour were in power not forgetting their obsession with speed cameras.

Did you think the motorways were built for cars? They were mostly built for lorries. People don't need to get around as much as goods need to be distributed.
