This is probably why you get so many bozos lane hogging in the middle lane. No chance of this happening.

I'm very surprised by this too considering I thought these smart motorways on the m25 and m62 were rigged with cameras.

Yep and the middle lane is constantly full with idiots doing 60 when the left lane is clear

"But Highways England said that prosecution of the offence is difficult as it requires that it be witnessed by a police officer."
No it doesn't. The point, badly made, is that there isn't a 'lane closed' camera. It's actually news to me that there isn't a 'lane closed' camera system - which probably accounts for the lack of prosecutions.

A s.36 offence can be detected by a red light camera (in appropriate cases), a police officer, a HATO, a member of the public. There's no reason that video evidence couldn't be used.
That's a direct quote from the HE website so perhaps you should be contacting them asking that they correct it.

I appreciate that.

It would be a full time job to correct every .gov website error.

But a 'system' doesn't have to be as complex as a red light camera system. Just set the acceptable speed to 0 mph and use the existing speed cameras on those lanes.

There's only cameras in 2 locations on that stretch, they both flash. Did you see a flash and can you narrow down what gantry you went under? hehe
They are speed cams not red red x cams (yet)

AGT there is no legislation in place presently to prosecute for RED X offence by camera.

It's not the system presently, It's the lack of legislation in place.

And again the light reading alluded to in previous threads smile

Then it seems you have no reason to be concerned.
Well, he should be concerned about why he didn't see the red X until he'd passed it.

Why wouldn't they prosecute for driving through a red X when they have a photo from behind showing the gantry and the vehicle underneath the sign and another from the gantry showing the vehicle below? They definately flash for the red X, seen it many times and the vehicles were not speeding at the time.

Do you not still get the four amber wigwags on these smart motorways?

It's been many moons since I passed my test but didn't you get them to warn that the red X was iminent?

You probably mean by a designated lane closed camera. Agreed. The HA quote remains incorrect for the reasons I've already identified.

There is legislation to enforce excess speed by means of speed cameras overseeing the hard shoulder.

See so many morons get caught out by these when travelling in the opposite direction trying to queue jump, amuses me greatly because it's always blatant what they're doing and you can see it coming a mile off hehe
Probably went pass the first can anyone confirm on this stretch whether these cameras are used just for speed or both speed and lane closures.

See the comments above, the legislation is not yet in place for them to be used to enforce X-lane transgressions.

I commute on north side of the M25 every day. The red x's are ignored by plenty of idiots up to the point where you meet a PSCO waving the traffic over to the next lane.

I even see people changing lanes to get into the red X lane as there is less traffic in it.

Just experienced this on the M25 today being broken down, Bloody lethal! yikes

The sooner these X lane offenders are brought to justice with dangerous driving the better!
