Interesting to read the comments here - one of my customers is having a similar issue with a Romanian delivery driver he has in his employ. I'm not sure about the rules, but again I just directed him to DVLA and also the local traffic commissioners office for advice as he also holds an O licence, although his driver was in a small van at the time.

In regards to helping her though, I'm surprised nobody has asked if she is hot or not! Must be a more discerning class of poster in this section of PH compared to The Lounge!

Worth mentioning that myself and colleagues have been driving in Norway for 5+ years on UK/EU licences.

I think the licence issue will get sorted, but hope she gets done properly if the use of the trader's policy is fraudulent...
If she helps the trader clean or deliver cars, there's nothing fraudulent about it.

You'd be a naive fool if you think it's legit use of the open policy. The OP stated "She thought she was on a friend's Trader's policy". Not employer -> "friend". If she is not an employee of the trade policy holder then she's not covered.
But who cares what the consequences are to others as long as you can get away with it.........

2 pages in and no one has speculated as to how fit she must be for the OP to be (potentially) going to all this trouble... Shameful.

I know. That's why I said "if the use of the trader's policy is fraudulent".
Yes, but the key question is what was the purpose of her journey?

If at the time she was stopped it was for the trader's business purpose she will be covered by the policy.
Otoh if she using the car for her own SD&P jaunt (supermarket sweep or whatever) then she isn't.

My money is on the second one.

Assuming she's covered as a driver on the trader policy it would normally only cover employees whilst driving one of the trader's cars or customers cars on the motortraders business not for her own private use and is generally subject to this type of car eg a permanent vehicle being added to the MID

Thank you for all of the replies. I think I'm just going to direct her to the local citizens advice bureau as like Ashleyman said, I don't really want to get involved in this which is very true

I'll let you know what happens and no she is'nt particularly hot lol, I was just trying to help her as she was quite worried about possibly having to go to court

Don't expect a bod and DVLA to give you correct advice. An EU licence holder living in the UK does not have to change their licence to a UK licence until they are 70. She could have driven on her Greek licence until then. The can change to a UK one if they wish, and as in your other half's case, will get a full UK licence without taking a test

Well for the sake of 20 quid she has a full uk photocard. Plus worth having for use of i.d. if the need arose. Shes been here 6 years and looking at citizenship too so just made sense to sort it.

makes no difference when test was passed in a country which joins the EU as all have the same rights when joined
