Hidden knife fine - Portugal - likely outcome?

I was talking to somebody who has a private pilot's license. He was telling me he flew from Barton Aerodrome (Manchester) to Blackpool. Barton is a small airfield, used mostly for club flying and teaching etc, but Blackpool is an international airport. He flew out without having to pass any checks, but in order to get to his plane in Blackpool, he has to pass through security.
He had forgotten that he had a farting little knife on his key ring and was told he had to hand it over, despite pointing out the plane he would be flying.
He told me another story; I cannot confirm it is the absolute truth, but apparently an armed police officer posted this on the PPRUNE forum. Apparently the police have to go through the similar checks and searches as Joe Public to access certain areas, but obviously they have special dispensation to carry the offensive weapons that form the tools of their trade. He was allowed through security with his MP5 carbine, Glock Pistol, Taser, CS gas, handcuffs and baton, but he had to surrender the yoghurt he had in his packed lunch as it was over 100 ml.
