What do you think this deserves? (Assume a clean licence, driving for 3 years)

The offence charged is speeding. This offence carries 3-6 points or a ban of any length. The fine is anything up to £1000 for a non-motorway offence - but that will be determined on the offender's income - so it would be a bit silly trying to guess the fine. I'd anticipate a level C fine.

I like that he pleaded guilty by post. Very optimistic!

Staggering..

..that he didn't just "fail" to identify the driver, unless he was already 6 points off a totting ban.

I might have read somewhere, that he was stopped at the roadside. If so that was never an option.

Correct, he was stopped at the time.

Still a good effort though.

For me it would depend if he was anywhere near any other car at the time, how far ahead could he clearly see in the conditions.

But the courts I'm guessing probably won't accept any mitigating factors for this, and given it has been in the press will want to make an example.

I'm going to go for near maximum fine according to earnings, and a 6 month ban.

If it was up here in Scotland it would be 18 months jail. Multi year ban and a re-sit plus fine.

How might he avoid jail for that? I'm sure there have been cases of lower speed where custody has been the outcome?

Because the offence is speeding (custodial not an option).

Seems I was talking b0llocks, as this is being prosecuted as speeding.

Maximum ban for speeding is, so far as I can ascertain, 120 days.

Is 'deserves' the operative word here? As you no doubt have a very good idea of the outcome he will 'get'.

I couldn't care what speed he does on the A11 provided he does it in a controlled manner with minimal impact on other road users.
Then again, as I've topped that speed on a number of occasions (several on the A11), I expect I should be banged up in the same cell.

Tim Passmore is a parent. Good for him, topical subject at the moment. Another bellend like his compatriot for Bedfordshire, I've come to the conclusion that PCC's are too much 'politician' for my liking.

Limited to 155mph, although it must have been rattling like a good un at that speed.

Suffolk Police and Crime Commissioner Tim Passmore said... "as a parent I find this particularly upsetting."

Oh do fk Off! I know cmaguire's made this point already, but that sort of sanctimonious crap really bores me to death. I'm sure Tim Passmore's child wasn't toddling up the middle of the A11 at the time, so what the hell does the fact he's managed to reproduce have to do with anything?

I would have far more interest in what the circumstances, traffic state and conditions were that the bloke was doing this speed (while accepting that regardless of that it's pretty daft thing to do).

The maximum ban for speeding is life

cmagire - I have a very good idea of the outcome, but that's not point of this discussion.

Yep. Also this :

"We really do need to make speeding as socially unacceptable as drink-driving if we are going to make Suffolk’s roads safer for everyone."

Maybe not "toddling up the A11", but he could easily have been in the back of a car nearby.

I think he's looking at a 3 month ban and a top end fine. I know some will bang on about nobody having been injured and so on, but the limit is the limit. I break it all the time, but not by that much very often. It's a bit stupid to do that speed and he'll get a proper financial reaming for it.
