Actually, its all fair points smile So what does the UK actually do if, say, a Latvian is GATSO'd? Do we get the big guns out, airmail invoices and flag up a 36 in a 30 insurgent to Border Patrol as well?
I've never received anything in all the times I've travelled around UK in German reg'd cars and bikes

I did pay the congestion chage though, I think they do chase you

Had several speeding tickets in Netherlands over last five years. Never paid one and never been nicked on arriving there. File it under bin. They will squawk for a few months then write it off.

please update us next time you fly out of there

I've been pulled out of line at Schiphol, parking fine, 40 euro, and been told with a smile at Hoek van Holland ferry port that they could legally seize my car - I owed 6 euro for a late payment of a fine

So, as long as I arrive via a French port and drive into the Netherlands I should be ok?

I wonder if they use ANPR to flag plates which have previously been subject to an unpaid fine... that would be harsh for hire cars. I'd feel sorry for anyone who takes the VW CC hire car I recently used back into the Netherlands.

you might just get pulled over by a Dutch cop (and his partner, who is also his lover)

Got one last year. The temptation is ignore it. Decided to pay up for peace of mind as I go there regularly.

The French cops also tracked my colleague who managed to rack up two tickets in just one hour. Hire Car. She paid up for the same reason; saves worry.

Your money, though.

Paid it yesterday. Ouch.

The nice lady at the bank said they get a lot of this. Didn't make the process any quicker though.

And in the meantime I've been sent two letters by Avis Budget telling me they'll charge me €31 + 21% VAT admin fee, so another €84.70 to pay.

Can verify this personally, Mr Pinwheel got pulled to one side at Schiphol as we left to come home to the UK, having ignored correspondence relating to speeding tickets issued over two years prior. Pay on the spot, sir, or you'll not be flying home any time soon.

He's getting on a plane!

Would love to know the detail on locking a non resident, non citizen 'tourist' for an overdue petty fine? Trying to relate it back to common sense, fact and UK... If a Balkan trucker hasn't paid his congestion charge in UK a few times - do we REALLY put them in jail within a few minutes of accosting them if he's skint/not the driver/doesn't even work for the same company/freelancer? Just looking for some fact here...

Just found out that the f***ers at Avis Budget, rather than deducting 2x €42.35 as per their letters to me have actually deducted £197.84, or €236 on today's exchange rate. No explanation as to why.

Email sent to customer services.

I managed to get pulled less than 10 minutes after clearing customs at Paphos on Saturday night. 88 kph in a 50, deserted two lane dual carriageway in the middle of nowhere with a 30mph limit. Bit annoying, but I'll pay the €50 fine as its my car over here registered at my holiday home, so no point trying to dodge it, as it'll just cause more grief.

First time I've been caught anywhere in 17 years, so I'm pretty chuffed it was over here, as no points.

Isn't that one fine + admin charges? If so, I would not be surprised if you would see the second one shortly as well.

That is why I mentioned earlier in the thread, normally they lift it straight from the hire company.

Which car hire companies pay the fine?

None I've ever used, but would be interested to know which to avoid in future.

Budget does it - I saw it on the last contract I signed. That was in Spain but I assume they probably use a similar form world wide.
