we've had a car outside our house for 8 weeks and its not moved (not sure it can).

spoke to the council, the car is taxed (till July 2017) with no MOT, so apparently nothing they can do.

spoke to the police, nothing they an do as its not dangerously parked or stolen.

Is there anything I can 'legally' do, there appears to be no way to find out who it belongs to either ?

Cheers

Michael

Landcover with tow bar and some rope and drag said vehicle in to road then call police and vehicle will be removed for blocking the road.

doesn't have to a Landrover

Accept that you do not own the road in front of your property, and that the vehicle is legally parked even if you do not like it?

I'm guessing it's insured?

Mind your own business otherwise isn't it? If it's taxed and insured it's allowed to park there.

My council have 'abandoned vehicle' reporting If the vehicle hasn't moved for 4 weeks, they will try and get hold of the owner and ask them the status. Worked for me for a camper van that had been sitting outside my home for over a month, contacted the council, a few days later the camper was gone, it's now parked around the corner.

Unfortunately as it's insured the council aren't interested, it's not moved for nearly 2 months now. It's also unlocked, so there hope someone might steal it

You only have to wait a few more days till the tax runs out then report it again, (they cant tax it without getting a new MOT).

OP says taxed until July 17.

Maybe the owner is away on holiday/business?

It would be a damn shame if someone let the handbrake off and moved it to be parked illegally.

That doesn't sound to Me as though the council did anything at all TBH - It sounds more like a case of a coincidence that the owner had finally used the vehicle and then parked it somewhere else.

Think about it:

If the camper van was perfectly legal to be parked where it was then the council have no authority to inform the owner to move it simply because you do not like looking at it.

If the the camper van was not legal to be parked on the road then they're not going to simply tell the owner to park it round the corner, and they're not going to just move it round the corner where it is still parked illegally.

My monies on, they do the standard on-line checks that we all can do, and if they find out the vehicle is road legal then they don't do anything at all.

If the checks show that the vehicle is not road legal then I suspect they then make an attempt to contact the owner to tell them to either get it off the road or get it road legal, otherwise it will be impounded.

How can it be taxed until July 2017?

When did the MOT run out?

Maybe it's been nicked and dumped.

Contact the police as well, they will check.

Otherwise, if it's taxed, insured and MOT then it's legal.

I feel your pain, I've been there.

Edit: I just re-read your post, it's unlocked? Maybe it has been nicked.

Unless your road has a residents only parking arrangement, yellow lines or the car is blocking your drive what is the complaint? It's taxed and insured.
It's a public high way, anyone can come and go and park, tough, just live with it.

No issues with that, it's taxed till July 17, but no MOT, so can't legally be driven. If someone was just parking I'd have no issues, buts it's a wreck and hasn't move for over a month, guess I'll just need to wait 12 months till I phone the council back again

Has the MOT just run out? How can it be taxed for 12 months without an MOT?
