Caught 106mph on M25 - What to Expect
Discussion
Got a letter through the door yesterday asking to identify driver of my car which was snapped at 106mph in a 70.
Already sent it back saying it was me and I do intend to plead guilty.
I'm after advise as to what to expect and the best way to plead mitigation in court. My driving license is currently clean with no points but I am going to be honest and say that I have been convicted in the past of driving on a ban and without insurance just over 3 years ago. These are still unspent but my license currently has 0 points and all bans and points have expired.
For Those who are going to have a go at me in the comments, it was 05:44 in the morning and motorway was clear and yes I have learnt my lesson and am going to give driving a break while I concentrate on my career. I put my hands up and offer no excuses so bash me if you must...
Can I expect the normal ban and fine or will they give a heavier punishment due to my history? Can they take previous driving convictions/points/bans into account if over 3 years old? FYI this is my first speeding offence if it makes any difference.
Many Thanks

I'm not sure anyone can give you an accurate estimate as I would guess your previous convictions mean the normal sentencing guidelines wouldn't apply.
I'd be amazed if you got away with it without a ban and a significant fine.
I'm sure someone else better qualified will be able to help though.

Thank you for your helpful comment, which is also incorrect. I did learn from my previous convictions and have always driven insured and licensed since... This is the first time I have been caught speeding.
It really does depend on what the Mag thinks of this though and whether you have actually learnt anything though with some kind of proof. Whether it is the first time or not you were caught 36 mph over the speed limit and your speedo *could* have been reading upto around 115 mph, not just a few mph over. Speeding is speeding, but it does really come down for many forces on what is a reasonable level of tolerance.Having a previous ban as said above will likely mean any normal guidelines are pretty much out the window, and the Mag may want to make some form of example of you, but that really does hang on how convincing you are of having learnt from your previous mistakes. Which with all respect some of are not that excessively long ago.
Taking a break from driving should also help possibly on the insurance front in future as well...

First time you've been caught - does that mean that at all other times you observed the speed limits?Monty Python said:

I wouldn't even bother turning up. Plead guilty by post. There are no mitigating circumstances, and if you don't turn up, no need to tell them about your previous.
I'd expect a 30 day ban.
I thought that if a ban was being considered you had no choice but to attend court in person? I'd expect a 30 day ban.
I was driving from Bristol to Essex about a month ago and the average speed of the M4 was much higher than the M25 (without traffic) with just about everyone doing bang on 70mph on the M25. There's a lot of threads about speeding on PH so do a google and see what previous advice has been given. 2 bans in under 8 years of driving (if your username is your birth year) is impressive...

Hopefully. You've learned nothing.
