Checkout Statutory interest and use it to fund bridging finance.

^^^^ This. 8% in addition to BOE base rate (currently three-fifths of not a lot!). Keep submitting monthly invoices with the increasing interest. This usually wakes them up. However, check that your contract does not specify a different much lower rate - not usual with government type authorities though. Indeed, just threatening that the interest will be applied sometimes does the trick.

Thanks everyone. We have some movement. Looks like we will be paid, told it'll be in our account by 3pm Friday?? Hope this turns out to be true. Look out for part 2 if not.
Did they pay you in the end?

Charge them interest in accordance with government guidelines and issue them with a Statutory Demand.

My current dentist stopped taking NHS and went completely private some months ago because he was tired of waiting for the NHS to pay him.

Private dentistry is more lucrative and prices are four or five times as much as the NHS pricing bands so no surprise really.
And the rates paid to dentists can mean that dentists loose money on certain work. e.g. I lost a tooth on a dental plate. dentist didn't have a dental technician and sent his work to local dental clinic, who ( at the time ) would charge him £15 to replace tooth. problem was that NHS payment to him was £10.

One? Surely zero?

Good news for the OP anyway.
